Deze papieren biologisch afbreekbare bekers zijn gevoerd met Nature Works polymelkzuur (PLA), dat is afgeleid van maïs die in de VS wordt verbouwd. Ze verschillen van normale bekers doordat normale bekers zijn bekleed met polyethyleen en niet composteerbaar of recyclebaar zijn. Papieren/PLA bekers zijn niet de meest duurzame oplossing, maar wel een stap in de goede richting. Het papier is afkomstig van PotLatch Corporation, een duurzaam bosbouwbedrijf, en is elementair chloorvrij (ECF) (gebleekt zonder elementair chloor). De bekers zijn bekleed met PLA voor eenvoudige recycling of compostering.
