PERFECT FIT FOR JOHH DEERE D105 LAWN TRACTOR
This kit is a drop-in replacement for our John Deere D105 Auto tractor. Install instructions from Briggs & Stratton that are included are incredibly vague, so here's what we did: Disconnect the battery. Take off the plastic housing from the top of the engine by first removing the air filter housing. There's a small screw to the side of the air filter that needs to be removed as well as several 3/8" bolts around the base of the housing that holds it all in place. Then use a small regular screwdriver to pry off the cap from the center of the flywheel screen, exposing the large flywheel screw. On our tractor this takes a 24mm socket to remove. Using an impact wrench is best, but can also be removed using a ratchet wrench along with a pipe wrench placed down below on the drive shaft (otherwise you'll just spin the flywheel when you try to loosing the screw by hand). Once removed, the replacement is straight forward. Simply line up the two molded dimples in the base of the flywheel fan with the two holes in the face of the flywheel, then reinstall the screen and fasten it all down with the flywheel screw. Lastly replace the cap over the flywheel screw and reinstall the engine cover. Done in under 10 minutes. Hope this is helpful.

Exact replacement for the existing plastic fan, but why include the separate metal guard? Well, you’re probably going to damage the guard when you try to remove the plastic stopper covering the flywheel bolt. And you get a new plastic stopper for the same reason. Of course, you already know that unless you take care when installing the fan cover (flap on engine has to slide inside fan cover at the top) that the plastic fan will be destroyed when you start the engine, that’s why you bought the replacement. And they don’t mention it in the install instructions since you already know that. This time, I removed the spark plug wire and rotated the engine a few times after assembly to make sure nothing was catching. Do this with your ratchet socket on the flywheel bolt, before you push that plastic plug into place! Now you’re good to go..
