cannon ss downrigger swivel base

I would have given it five stars but the tolerances were too loose in the swivel. The downrigger/potpuller has a little "rock" to it. If it had a bit more machined off the inside of the base or the plastic 'washer' was a bit thicker this would be a five. It would be a bonus if it had a Scotty bolt pattern as well as the cannon. I fabricated an aluminum adaptor and it works very well. Other than the above it is the best downrigger mount out there. Very well built and a fine finish on the 316 stainless. I am going to get another and toss the Scotty swivel I have. Another good feature is the replaceable plastic washer so the swivel is smooth and will last forever. Replace a worn out Scotty once and you have more than covered the cost. You will never have to buy another! So seldom do you see good quality these days this is refreshing.

Sturdy

New set up for my cannon mag 5"S,went together fine all the holes lined up and no cross threading,Game changer.No more leaning over the boat to retrieve lines or weights in choppy water. The set up is not cheap but if it makes fishing easier and safer why not.After reading reviews about the Lexan bases cracking in a couple of years and decided not to ever buy these again so I went for the SS model, I think this set up will out last me and the down riggers.Tight lines.

Marginal product.... terrible support!

Used product in combination with the SS Gimbal mount. Had a very bad experience with the product so I sent the following Email to their service... Help! The SS swivel bases that I purchased have been a huge challenge to work with in combination with the gimble mount. Do you have any way of tightening the swivel bases? The ones that came with the product are plastic and are much tighter. Additionally, I had chosen the gimble mount because I was concerned that there was no thickness to my gunwhale (28 Regulator CC). I'm going to have to switch to a plate mount because both the gimble mount and the swivel base are extremely loose. They have popped out of place several times and done significant damage to gel coat and I'll need some fiberglass touch up as well Is there an attractive SS plate option with a backing plate? This was their response....Hello, The SS bases you purchased are the only SS swivel bases we sell. Thank You Brian

Replacement for Composite Version

I purchased two of these to replace the composite low profile swivel mounts which developed cracks in the bases in 1-2 years of use. These are much sturdier and should outlast the downriggers and boat. My only complaint is there is more play in the swivel action compared to the composite version.

Perfect Mount for Prawn Line Hauler

I adapted this Cannon stainless swivel mount to accept my prawn line hauler. I am very pleased with the strength of the mound when the line hauler is pulling approximately 200 pounds of traps from about 300 feet of water. It has proven to be a perfect solution because it allows me to swivel the hauler tp pick up my traps when they are at the surface. I would recommend the stainless swivel for this application and I am very pleased to have made this choice for my prawn fishing activities.
