Change the Protocol - And It Works

Following the manufacturers directions, we initially set up the large DynaTrap insect catcher twenty-five feet (7.6 meters) away from where people gather but it didn't attract the mosquitoes plaguing us in the carport area. We even tried adding different packets of "Octenol" type attractant to the DynaTrap to hopefully increase its mosquito catching power, but nothing helped and we considered the DynaTrap a complete failure. This mosquito season we put two new bulbs in the device (the manufacturer recommends they be replaced every four months) and set the DynaTrap on a small table right where the mosquitoes congregate in the corner of the carport. This time around the DynaTrap works and our long-term mosquito problem is well under control. We can actually walk outside into the carport without being besieged by mosquitoes. There are still a few errant mosquitoes around, but nothing like the clouds of biting bugs we had before. The DynaTrap is a large device, somewhat noisy, and must be left on day and night for the entire biting bug season in order to break the insect breeding cycle, but it does work. If your DynaTrap isn't doing the job for you, try breaking the location rules like we did and put it right in the middle of where mosquitoes or other biting bugs congregate and see if that does the trick.

Helps but doesn’t eliminate mosquitos

I previously gave this product a bad review because I thought it broke after it turned 1 1/2 years old. The light stopped working, but the fan continue to work and I replace the bulbs but they did not come back on. I contacted Dyna trap customer service, and they gave me instructions to fix it. I previously thought it broke after one and a half years, but all that was needed was to reset the power supply after changing the bulbs. FYI, “We have determined that the electrical circuit on some 1-acre traps needs to be reset when changing or reseating the light bulbs. Its a simple process. First, please confirm the bulbs are seated properly. 1. If the bulbs are out of the trap, make sure the pins on each side of the bulb line up with the opening on the rings that hold the bulbs in place. Then twist 90 degrees - a quarter turn - in either direction. They should not be loose. 2. If the bulbs are in the trap, twist the bulbs 90 degrees - a quarter turn - until you could take them out of the bulb holder - but don't. Keep them in place. Twist them back until they are firmly in place. Now, turn the trap off and unplug the unit. Wait a full 30 seconds. Plug back in and turn the trap back on. Both bulbs should light up at this point.”

Bulb or Ballasts Don't Last

It worked great for one season. For season two, I decided to replace the bulbs with authorized replacement bulbs. They didn't work. I installed them correctly. I put the old bulbs in which had worked and now they don't. I've read similar reviews with this problem. I like this product in all other ways, but this is so typical of products today.

works great for horse flies

I bought this product to help with a horse fly problem in my back yard, we live on the lake and the horse flies were terrible. It took about 4 weeks to wipe the horse flies out and I'm very happy we no long have the problem thanks to the DYNATRAP XL. I live on about .7 acre lot and the XL was the right size.

Effective for light-seeking insects, but less so for mosquitos

I live in an area with an enormous caddisfly population. Every summer, my neighbors and I cannot leave outside lights on, or a swarm of caddisflies will descend on them. They don't bite, but they're a major nuisance. This DynaTrap has absolutely devastated their population. When I first set it up this summer, I was having to empty the hopper on this every couple of days because it was filling up. It was an absolutely mind-boggling amount of dead bugs to deal with. A few things I wish I knew about this before I bought it, though. First, this thing is a lot bigger than it looked. It's got to be about 2' tall and maybe 18" wide. Second -- the science on these things generating CO2 to attract bugs is somewhat immature, to put it mildly. There is some question about whether it actually generates any CO2, and you'll notice that DynaTrap's website never really goes into depth about this. You'd think it wouldn't be too hard to find an independent lab to show measurable CO2 production, but they have not. For flying insects drawn to light, this works great. I haven't carefully studied the mounds of dead bugs, but I haven't noticed a decrease in the local mosquito population. Products like the Mosquito Magnet are so effective because mosquitos are drawn to heat and CO2. Some bugs, like my caddisflies, are simply drawn to light, and the light and moderate heat this produces works great for them. Efficacy against mosquitos seems unproven. I actually bought this specifically for mosquitos and was disappointed; I still get bit at night. But this has been extremely effective at taking out other bugs, so I'm happy enough with it.

Atrapa todo menos moscas

Este aparato al parecer atrapa todo tipo de bichos, pero lo menos que atrapa son moscas, al vaciar el tanque puedes observar muchos insectos pero muy poca mosca

Al inicio me precio grande y pensaba regresarlo. Lo conecté y en poco rato había atrapado muchos sancudos. Es increíble la disminución de los molestos mosquitos en el área.

Produit incompatible avec l'Europe.

Lors de notre achat, le descriptif sur Amazon n'indiquait pas la tension à utiliser pour ce produit. Surprise! C'est un produit US fonctionnant sur 110V, donc à nous d'acheter un transfo pour l'utiliser. Mystère! Depuis notre achat, le descriptif a changé et indique la tension 110v. Mais pour nous, c'est trop tard!
