Good as a hard hat, can be adapted to improve sun protection

Like my bike helmet, this hard hat has an occipital adjustment knob, which allows it to fit just about anyone. Unlike my bike helmet, whose knob is essentially a ratcheting mechanism, the hardhat knob must be pulled out, turned to fit, then pushed back into place to lock it. Once you understand it, it's easy to do while wearing the hard hat. With no sun protection on the sides and back, and not much in front, I was concerned about sun protection. First, I put it on over a baseball cap. It fit, but pressed the cap down onto my glasses. Not a problem if you're not wearing glasses, but not a solution for me. Then I tried wearing it over a floppy sun hat (first photo). It looks a little strange, but it worked just fine. Probably my go-to solution on sunny days. But there are slots above the ears. Could they be adapted to some kind of burnoose? I got a scarf (20-inches on a side) and improvised clips as an experiment. One picture illustrates the clip idea, but with the second of the two slots exposed. The other picture illustrates the idea with the makeshift burnoose fully engaged. I suppose someone who really needed a burnoose would come with something more robust, maybe sewn into place, but this actually looks good enough for occasional use.

Great for Peace of Mind

Last time I tried to trim a tree with my electric pole saw, a small branch hit me on the head. It’s amazing how much it hurt even though its diameter was only about an inch. At that point I decided I needed to be more careful. Hence this hard hat. The hat is solid and relatively light weight. I was worried about it not fitting my big head. I needn’t have worried. There is a hinged hard plastic strap that swings down from the inside. It is inside for stowing and lowers down to the nape of your neck. The strap has an adjustment dial to find a comfortable fit for your head. I haven’t had anything fall down and hit me since that time but now I do feel safe pruning the two large trees in my yard. So, as far as I’m concerned, this hat is great for peace of mind because if something goes terribly wrong, that could be a trip to the ER right there. It doesn’t look too bad on my head either.

Comfortable and very easy to tweak the fit.

I like it. It is lightweight, comfortable, looks good, and meets ANSI Z89.1-2014, CSA Z94.1-15, TYPE 1, Class C standards. That means: TYPE 1: Protects against impacts to the crown or top of the head. It's not designed to protect against horizontal blows to the front, back, or side of the head. Class C: Not intended, or rated, to protect the wearer from electrical shocks. So this isn't going to protect you, or satisfy safety personnel, if you're working on overhead power lines. The sizing band and sweat band are all generously wide and padded, so hours of wear with it tightened securely shouldn't leave you uncomfortable or with indentations on your forehead. There are a wealth of possible adjustments one can make inside, and I moved things from hole-to-hole and really didn’t come up with a better fit than the factory default settings. Given more time, I might find some minor tweaks to adjust brim height could benefit. If you're buying a vented hard hat to keep comfortable in the heat, then buy it in white, which will reflect heat from sunlight. Its like buying a cooler: If thermal performance is critical, buy it in white. Think about whether you rely on your hard hat to keep your head and hair dry in the rain, because the vents in this one will let in rain flow in. It's nothing that can't be solved with duct tape, but that argues for having some duct tape handy on rainy days. It was long past the time to replace my old hard hat and this one is a winner.

Great helmet and great ventilation.

For the most part this is a great helmet. I needed something good and safe to do some projects in the attic and not hit nails and this does its job. The helmet size is better for men. My head is little for sure and would need two more turns to make it not move as much. I do love the padding on the forehead area to keep sweat away from my eyes and the BOA style knob is a winner. The pull and turn knob is fantastic to switch from the smallest setting to a bigger setting for my husband to use as well. The only thing is I wish it could turn another knob or two for women that have to use work helmets. It still works for me and protects me.
