Sturdy solution to a new ceiling fixture
I had to install a new ceiling box in a dining area that didn't have a ceiling light and no access to the space above. This can be installed through the hole and is hefty enough to hold more weight than I needed. It took a little fussing with it to get the legs to sit properly with insulation interfering with their movement, but it worked and is doing the job I needed it for.

Husband was very happy!
We added a light in our room 2 years ago. Husband: “Are you SURE you’re not going to want a ceiling fan?????” Because now is the time to put a brace in for the ceiling fan…” Me: “No babe. Let’s do a little chandelier. I don’t need a fan. I promise I don’t want a ceiling fan!” A year later. “Hmm I kinda want a ceiling fan.” Kept that to myself. Two years later. Me: “Hey honey, can we put in a ceiling fan???” Hubby: “SEE!! I knew it!! I should’ve listened to myself and put in the brace!! You know I have to crawl back into the attic —“ Me: “No yea, totally. That’s not good.” I almost gave up on my dream of having a ceiling fan and then I found this retro brace when desperately trying to find a solution to get a ceiling fan in our room (early menopause ????). I shared this with my hubs and he begrudgingly agreed to try it. He never had to go in the attic!!! And was so impressed by the brace and how easy it was that he’s thinking of switching out a couple other fixtures for ceiling fans. My husband, myself and my hot flashes thank you!!!!

Worked better than advertised.
I just purchased two ceiling fans for my garage. These fans are replacing two original light fixtures. The light fixtures were not strong enough for a ceiling fan, so I purchased two of these kits. I just finished installing the first one. This fit fine for a 24" span. The original electrical box was nailed to the truss. I was suprised how closely I could get the new box to the truss plate. It is very adjustable. Also, one side is sitting on a truss plate and this holds on to the truss plate just fine. This support is strong, even at the 24" width. It is definitely going to work for the 52" fans that I have. The fan doesn't wobble or move a bit. It feels SOLID. This support was very easy to install. I've never done this before, and the hardest part was enlarging the hole in the drywall. I am very happy and I will buy this again the next time I install a ceiling fan. Hope this helps.

Hubbell 936 Ceiling Fan Box and Support
+1 - Item arrived on time, and not damaged +1 - Item is as described +2 - Item installed as it should, and I had no issues mounting a ceiling fan to it -1 - Installation was harder than it needed to be, and there were no separate instructions. Just some brief/poorly written instructions on the side of the box Thoughts: If you're looking at something like this, hopefully you've done your homework on what it is you're wanting to install, what type of access you have, how deep your ceiling is, where your studs are, etc? Helpful hint, check for cross studs. Just because you've determined that your studs are running one way doesn't mean that the builders didn't put a cross stud in - right where you wanted to put your hole. All in all, installation wasn't difficult. Cut my hole, extended the bar out to the 24" marker that was on the threads (helpful - there's also a 16" mark), shoved it in, made sure the feet were in the downward position, twisted until it was tight and it was difficult to turn the bar. The part that made installation a bit difficult was the bracket you slide onto the bar. There's nothing to hold it onto the bar, you just put your keyhole screws in, put the box up and hope you don't push it off the bar - which I did a couple of times. I ended up pinching the ears in the middle to hold the bracket in place - even though the instructions didn't say to do that. Once I did that I was able to align the keyhole screws, and complete the installation. The punchouts on the gang box were pretty sealed. I ended up having to take a mini sledge hammer to it to get it to punch open. If you're having difficulty getting the wire to feed through the tensioner, strip your wires out of the main jacket then feed it through. Overall it was pretty easy to install. This was my first bracket install without attic side access, and I successfully did it. The next one will be even easier.

deep Pockets!
The unit is very sturdy as described, but the receptacle is rather deep... my particular application ended up being capable to mount direct to stud, so the box stuck out too far.... had to by a 1/2 shallow box. THIS unit is great if I was able to get between two joist though. would recommend since very well made and sturdy.

Worked for what I needed.
I needed to place a light in between the roof rafters on a trailer. The existing box was an old work box and the celing broke out around the box tabs making that style unusable. I decided to try this box. It did work for what I needed but I never got it to tighten up on the rafters. It continued to move quite a bit. Not a problem for holding a light , but I wouldn't have trusted a fan on it. I will say I'm nit sure it is the boxes fault. The way the rafters were, they were smaller than normal and I think that the smaller service area make it not grab as good.

Built well and versatile. A real time saver.
Appears to be very well made. I replaced a ceiling light with a ceiling fan. While the photo only shows an installation where the box is centered, lights/boxes are usually next to, or fastened to, a truss or joist, not centered between. Regardless, this product works for either application. This product saved me having to crawl up into my attic, remove insulation and either fit a wooden brace between two trusses or purchase a special box to screw solidly to the joist. It took me minutes to install this unit. My only concern or critique is that the barbs on each end might be slightly longer to pierce the wood deeper for a better grip. I may be concerned about nothing but if I were to improve the product that would be my only suggestion.

Great design. Solid.
Great product. Easy to install. Holds the heavy chandelier no problem. This product saved me a ton of work and grief. It was easy to install even with the minimal instructions. I do wish it had an extra bonding provision. But overall I would recommend this product.
