Great Product
These sockets work great. I had a frozen bolt holding one of the blades on mu John Deere tractor. And to top it off, I had slightly rounded the edges trying to wrestle the bolt free. I previously purchased another brand of bolt remover sockets (name not mentioned). They did not work. Could not hammer any size socket on to the frozen bolt. On the first try with the Irwin sockets, I hammered a socket on to the frozen bolt. Then used a impact wrench to loosen the bolt. Worked beautifully.

Good tool to have
I didn't really need this, as i was able to get the bolt off that i thought was stripped. However it had good reviews on it so hopefully some day i might get to use it. Even though i haven't used it yet it looks fairly simple to use all you need is a hammer . Good buy. Good brand

Great tool
Loved it. Used it at work the very next day to remove a bolt that had no head. Worked exactly as expected.

great
Got a stuck bolt ? Carolla, bottom alternator bolt. Rounded off corners on bolt, did some homework on this extractor, ordered it, got here in 2 days. Put tool on bad bolt, it is built to go in tighter on bolt head, gave a push it tighten up pushed again with cheater bar, BAM 1 it was loose. Thanks Irwin, it worked perfect ...

with a husky torque wrench I torque it to the recommended 25lb ft
recently had recalls fixed, by dealership ,and while they had it I had them do a multi-point inspection and rotate tires. after I got it back and with oil change due, I got out my romper room socket set and driver, plenty for suv oil change, to discover the plug would not budge. I do not use a lift, normally, so the room for gaining leverage is a challenge. I use or2, jeep quadra lift, to get some room, but it remains a minor hassle for the Normal oil change. being the 5th oil change for the vehicle, I was baffled by the stuck plug. with a husky torque wrench I torque it to the recommended 25lb ft, MAX. recommended is 20-25lb ft. for those familiar with 25lb ft, that is not so tight. again, the limited room for leverage left me to move to the, gulp, vice grips. until this battle, I had not lost to a stuck plug with my hefty vice grips. I knew that the move to vice grips meant the risk of ruining the bolt face, but I was confident given my history. 3 hours and scrapes and bruising latter, I am a beaten down romper room mechanic. my guess is that the dealership mechanic has the habit of ensuring everything tight during the inspection and who knows what torque used to ensure that. LOTS!! so, panic stricken, I rush to the web, having mangled the bolt, and soon find IRWIN bolt extractors. I ordered the 9pc w/one day. I was in the garage giving it another go after letting supercreep get after it all night when the package arrived. I was depressed and far from confident this product could do what I could not with vice grips. I could get the grip on this plug. The first choice one has with the extractor set is which socket. I first tried the one closest to the bolt size and though it griped, it did not work. I went to the next smaller size and had a devil of a time hammering it in, again with limited space to generate force. NOTE: I removed the shield to get more space for this next step, but it was still not much for hammering. I finally got the extractor socket all the way down, can get frustrating so stick with it, and tried again with the torque wrench. I finally got a nasty snap and shocked by the sound immediately thought the head ripped off and a new oil pan in my future. Then I Noticed the socket was still on the plug and the plug was free. I am still kind of not believing that I could not get this bolt off with the vice scrips and that this worked beyond that. I wrote all that, sorry, in part to show that sometimes even those who know better end up with a mess. For those wondering, I used a 13mm 6pt socket, but I had a difficult time keeping it on the bolt with the force required in that limited space. It was a mistake to move so quickly to the trusty vice grips--I should have removed the shield first, but that is not why I pose this review. This product works. A picture shows the oil plug and you can see the groves where the extractor socket digs in. Thank you, IRWIN!

Works as described, but the case is flimsy and 9/13 packs are overpriced
My mower deck on my John Deere tractor needed adjustment. Unfortunately years of having wet grass covering it led the bolts/nuts to be a bit rusty and hard to grip with my standard ratchet set. I bought this set so I could get the bolt lose and make my adjustments. I had never used any kind of extractor bit before so I wasn't sure if it was a marketing gimmick, or if they really worked. In the past I had always just toughed it out and eventually gotten the bolt lose myself. However, this stubborn bolt on my tractor had me beat so I caved in and bought this set... Functionally, this set worked great. It extracted the bolt with little to no effort. I must have wasted an hour (including cut knuckles and a lot of cursing) trying to get the bolt to loosen before I bought this and with this extractor I completed the job in a manner of minutes. That being said, there are of few things that I wasn't a fan of: 1.) It's nice that it comes with a case, but the case is terrible. To begin with, the extractors don't in any way "lock into place" like your normal ratchet set will. They just kind of sit in there. This means they fall out very easily. Since I was using this outdoors (during the fall when leaves are everywhere), I almost lost one of the extractors. When my cheap $20 Chinese ratchet set can design a case where the items don't all fall out, I would have expected this to be able to as well. 2.) I really wanted the 9-piece set, but seriously, 5-piece for $20 and $73 for the 9-piece???? Four little pieces of metal are worth an additional $53???? That's ridiculous and seems like a rip off to me. Oh and one note from my own stupidity - these only REMOVE bolts, they can't be used to TIGHTEN bolts. It makes sense because of the reverse flute design, but without thinking I set my ratchet to tighten mode and the whole thing just slides over the bolt not grabbing at all causing me to hurt my hand. I don't think I can blame them for that, I was just an idiot, but I figure the other idiots out there like me might welcome the warning! :)

Awesome
Attempted to replace 4 Mini Cooper anti roll bar drop links. 16mm bolts, 80,000 miles past being factory fresh and rusted solid. No amount of WD40, rust release sprays, blowtorch heat/shrink cycles or judicious hammering would free them. I lost hours trying. Found these and decided to go with a known brand rather than some random brand. Tap on the 5/8 / 16mm socket. Apply a lot of force with a bar extension and... the bolt started to give. Few mins later and it's off. Lifesaver and well worth the price. Can't speak to their longevity, but took 8 bolts off with ease and barely a mark on it. Love it.

Brilliant piece of kit
Got me out of trouble many times over the years with badly rusted up bolt heads, including rusted up 19 mm brake caliper brackets originally torqued up to 200NM when new... Kills the bolt head but doesn’t really matter as it’s generally knackered anyway if the sockets slipping over it. As soon as a socket starts to slip now I just go straight to these.

Probably the best tool there is.
Every damaged nut or bolt is a unique challenge as they differ in degree of damage, material they are made from, how badly seized they are, how accessible they are etc so it pays to have an arsenal of tools to hand because no one single tool is always going to be the best or most appropriate in ALL circumstances, but this little set of sockets is the closest I've ever found to being the one tool that makes you want to throw all the rest away. Other reviewers have commented that it is sometimes difficult to find a socket which will fit the particular nut or bolt in question, but remember a 10mm nut which has been rounded is no longer a 10mm nut. If you can't get one of these sockets onto a nut which you have already destroyed then you've nothing to lose by just destroying it a little more until a socket WILL fit. Grind a little more metal off it by trying again with the mole grips, or by filing, or using a Dremel with a grinding bit (I've done this where access was restricted, works great), whatever. You are still going to have to work to do the job, even the best tool won't just do it for you while you stand back and watch. The sockets actually get a great grip when the nut or bolt head has been prepared, to the extent that it can be a challenge getting them out again afterwards. These are tough tools. I have belted these on with a 2lb hammer and used them with an impact driver, but despite all the abuse I've given them they still look like they're fresh from the factory. I also like the fact that as well as being useable with a 3/8 drive they also have hex flats so they can be used with spanners, handy when access is an issue. Not absolutely sure why they are sold in a half empty box and you have to buy the rest as an "expansion kit", better if they just sold the box with 10 sockets in and be done with it.

These are a must in a tool box.
I thought I will never get those bolts out, but with this item I was successful!! I tried Grip-Tite super sockets first which made it even more round to the point I was unable to even turn the bolt. Then I tried pliers which made it impossible. So I decided to purchase the Irwin Bolt-Grip and with one shot grabbed those bolts like a shark and turned them loose. I couldn't believe they even worked I thought it was another useless tool. Was wrong big time. Attached an image of one bolt which was strip to the bone and the other bolt was not that bad.

Cumpre o que promete!
Estava sofrendo para retirar um parafuso que prende a caixa de direção hidráulica no agregado do carro, já estava perdendo as esperanças. Realmente funciona, destrói o parafuso mas arranca!
