Nice sturdy, pretty, but DIFFICULT and aggravating to install

This product is nice, but very difficult to install. All of the parts are loose and will fall apart easily until you get some of the screws in. You have to be able to hold all the parts together enough to get the first couple of screws in and it's difficult to do while installing those first screws. Also, you have to make sure all the different parts are in the correct spot and facing the correct way, especially if they do fall off while installing. Aggravating but not impossible.

The item itself is a very good piece of equipment. I couldn't believe I actually found a brass replacement hinge for an expensive elongated seat after having to use a plastic one when I couldn't find this hinge originally. That was the good part!!! This replacement hinge comes with no template for attaching it to the seat and lid. Prepare yourself for an experience that will test your vocabulary in how many 4/5/6 letter words you know. Hinge is great!! Attaching it is an "exciting event" to say the least, only reason the product didn't get a "5".

Good, not great metal toilet seat hinges

This set of metal toilet seat hinges is nice, I needed it to replace one hinge on an expensive acrylic toilet seat. The quality is ok, but the holes nearly didn't match those on the seat, they just barely fit. However, as several other people have commented, the crossbar is way too short, I can't use it at all. I'm still using the older, longer one, but it doesn't quite fit, either, so the seat is still a bit loose. I will need to take the bar to a plumbing supply store to see if they can cut one for me to the proper length. Otherwise, it's not super high quality, but good enough to be worth trying.

not made for a perfect fit for every seat

I expected to had to re-drill some holes and reuse others, not made for a perfect fit for every seat. With a little handy work these work if you want to save the seat/ lid you have. I ended up using small machine bolts as some of my old holes were too loose to reuse the OEM screws. I took a similar spare machine bolt, screwed a nut on it with about a quarter inch past the nut. heated it up hot enough to mold it into the plastic using the machine bolt to keep me centered in the hole. Pressed in just far enough to have the nut flush with the top of the seat, repeated the process and cleaned up and cut machine bolts to length when tighten they do not protrude. The nuts have a custom fit into the seay and are far enough back that the are not noticed. A little Loctite on the threads and tighten everything up it is fasten rock solid.

Great Product

I was about to throw away a designer toilet seat because the original hinges corroded from moisture. After searching through Amazon.com for toilet seat hinges, low and behold there they were. This product kept me from throwing away a perfectly good acrylic toilet seat made of all kinds of American coins. One bit of negative news . . . when the toilet seat hinges arrived it came with two right hinges that attach to the top lid. I had to send it back for an exchange. I'm a bit glad that this happened. It gave me a chance to see how the return process for Amazon.com work. It worked flawlessly. I followed the return instructions and in three days I had a completely new toilet seat hinge set shipped to me. I search Amazon.com for almost everything and have ordered many items. The fact that the return process works confirms that Amazon.com will be my first choice when shopping for items of interest.

Works, but NOT Easy to Install

I figure that I saved $30–35 by replacing the hinge on my fairly expensive oak toilet seat instead of getting a new one. I'm not so sure it was worth the trouble. I spent HOURS making minor adjustments to make the seat fit right, drilling a few new sets of holes in the seat [but not the lid]. I initially tried to replace just the one part that had snapped. but the dimensions are enough different so that this didn't work well. It's not the manufacturer's fault. The holes on the ceramic toilet are standard, but not the screw holes on the seat. IF this new hinge , which seems slightly heavier than the original, ends up breaking I MIGHT order another, since I've already drilled the screw holes, but I'm not sure.

PRODUCT IS NOT SOLID BRASS AND THE ADVERTISING IS MISLEADING

Be aware that this product is misleadingly advertised as "POLISHED BRASS METAL" when it is not. In reality it is brass plated zinc/aluminium die casting with brass plated steel screws and will rapidly corrode in a damp bathroom atmosphere. If you want to find a genuine solid brass assembly with solid brass crews that will last a lifetime take a look for it on Amazon U.K.

Replacement

I purchased this as a replacement for my existing toilet hinge that was broken, and this did the job very well.
