Working great
I watched a how to video on living traditions homestead showing how to turn a mineral lick tub into a duck waterer, and made two using these float valves. These work great! The ducks now have a steady supply of water with no mess around the tubs. The float valve automatically fills the tub as the ducks lower the water level. My only concern is the thin plastic riser that cones out of the valve to connect to a hose.. I worry that during freezing weather it might become brittle and break. The kit comes with plenty of hardware to mount the float as needed, but I purchased other nuts and bolts because I had a more custom need.

CHOOSE this rather than the plastic version for cattle
We have tried both the plastic and the metal versions of these. The cows got to fighting around the water trough, or just hit the valve with their heads while drinking, and broke the two plastic valves fairly quickly. (Plastic has been okay with the sheep, goats, and a single steer.) I've been MUCH happier with this metal version for the cattle, although metal is a little more expensive. I will say that the first one I bought was rendered unusable, but it was through no fault of the valve; the end of the short hose (note this!!!!) I was using broke off in the intake and we could not get the threaded-metal portion of the hose out without tearing up the valve. (The valve had started to accumulate build-up from the water, and it was like cement.) Other than that, the metal valve was much more durable. If and when I get time, I'm going to design some kind of housing for these valves to be sure they stay in the right position on the trough and don't get knocked caterwampus (a technical term) when the cows really get to fighting. Also note that the screws on these sometimes don't grip the sides of thin tanks very well. You might want to have a piece of thin board, etc. handy, although a thick piece of rubber from an old tire, etc. might be even better. Otherwise, here in Texas during the recent 100+ heat and horrible drought, these water valves have helped me keep full troughs of fresh water all the time, even if we have to be gone for the day, and with very little spillover. In spite of the cost, I think they're well worth the money.

Vacuum Break cheap
Im concerned about the black pipe on top breaking because the hose hooks there. Is also the vacuum break to stop water to seal into your hose i think the cheaper one is actually better than this one

This float does it’s job just like it’s supposed to do.
This float is easy to install and seems to have a long life doing its job.

Missing a part
Gave it straight 3 start because a key rubber seating part was missing so I can't install it - will try a washer from a garden hose as substitute - but really - missing a part is so 1990s.

Half plastic!
Bought this because the cows pushed the hose around and broke it out of the older plastic valve I was using. But this one has a plastic stem sticking up where the hose connects. I thought, oh well, I'll just leave out the anti-siphon part and put the hose directly in the metal housing. NOPE! Can't do that because the valve is built into that plastic tube. And with it sticking up 4" it's just asking to be broken! Had to build a box around it to protect it. Should have just gotten another cheaper plastic one since I had to build a box anyway.

Doesn't work. Looks like a knock off
Spelling mistakes all over the box. Valve never closes. Doesn't work.
