New or Not?

I purchased the water timer which noted it was a "New" product. However, it came from Columbia, South Carolina, distribution center in a generic box. In the past I have received such items in a new, unopened, company box. In addition, there were two different used batteries installed that are not original to the item. If the item is one that has been returned for some reason, should that not make it a Used item and for a lower price? I was charged the "New" and unused price. The item appears to function correctly but I have to wonder why it was returned and the sold again as "New" and how long will it last. Instructions and quick connectors are included.

Difficult to set

This timer is designed to do so many things that it is too difficult to figure out basic use. Instructions are not good. Previous Melnor designed timers were easy to set and use, but this particular timer is just the opposite. Also, older Melnor timers lasted mulch longer. Lucky to get a full season use out of this particular model.

Defective Product

I installed the timer today and discovered it is defective. The valve that controls the water flow is stuck in the open position and will not close. I followed the directions in the manual to first remove the batteries and if that did not fix the problem turn on and off the manual water setting 3 times. But that also failed to correct the problem. I have 4 other Melnor timers and they all work fine. I returned this defective unit for credit and will look at other manufacturer's timers.
