The charcoal is thick weave
It had like a half inch charcoal filter on it. The MERV 14 is only paper thin on the 4” anyways. This 5” is the real deal. MERV 13 works quick.

My first purchase of a merv 13 filter. Have always used merv 16. My research on filtration merv 16 vs merv 13 indicates for the money in a normal residence merv 13 is effective.

Very good filter
Well-built and sturdy filter. Merv 13 large pleats with the added charcoal filter at the exit. One of my better replacement filters I’ve used.

Great quality furnace filter
We moved into our current home almost a year ago. The first time we went on vacation, we adjusted the thermostat to be at a warmer temperature while we were gone. When we got home, the house smelled like stale cigarette smoke. We had no idea that previous owners were smokers before that! I quickly researched filters with charcoal, and settled on this one because we also have a child with some allergies. (We also have a UV light in the ducting, installed by the previous owners.) After using this filter, the air smelled cleaner when it hadn't been circulating as much, and when I pulled it out for replacement (with the same type), the filter wreaked of a smoke smell. The next change still had a slight smell, but not nearly as much. The last time we left the house for a long period, it was so much cleaner when we got back home. I will stick with these for a long time, as they are certainly helping to clean our air.

The best for home.
My A/C guy uses Merv 11 at Trane’s recommendation, said more than Merv 13 could be hard on unit, but Merv 13 would be okay. Merv 13 is the low end of hospital air filtration where motors are designed for the extra restricted air flow.

Merv 12? How do I know Amazon?
Amazon product phots shows a MERV 13 filter...... product description states a MERV 12..... can be misleading if one doesn't read the description and strictly order by product image..... Amazon can do better than that.

They work extremely well at removing allergens and smoke odor from nearby forest fires.
I keep purchasing them because they do eliminate pollen and dust allergens plus they eliminate the smell of smoke in the air. We live in a rural wheat growing county in WA state. During the fall wheat harvest the agricultural combines fill the air with wheat chaff dust and the concurrent forest fires from Canada and other western states make the air very unhealthy. This filters make the air inside our airconditioned. closed up home breathable and very tolerable. I most definitely recommend them.
