Works! Lighting could be clearer but great product
I've been using this for over a year and it definitely works and is not messy. When a rodent is killed it very easily empties into a garbage can. I've caught about 6 rats so far and it hasn't been turned on everyday, I try to switch it up. My only critique is the light on the top that blinks isn't very clear and sometimes I don't know if a rodent is trapped or not unless I pick it up and physically look inside. If the lighting could be clearer to be able to glance from 5+ feet away and instantly be able to tell, that would bump me up to 5 stars.

ZAP!
This trap works as advertised. My property backs up to farm fields, and where there's grain there's probably a healthy rat population. One of them decided to take up residence under my ground-level deck and was sneaking out from time to time to snatch birdseed that the birds leave laying around in the grass. I tried a bait station with no results, and I really don't like using them because they're not very humane. Snap traps are more humane, but not very effective in my experience, and can be pretty messy if you do happen to catch something. So, I decided to give this a try and on the 4th day NO MORE RAT. One quibble - the end of the trap with the bait tray has a little louvered vent. It took Mr. Rat 4 days to figure out that he couldn't reach that enticing peanut butter smell from that end. He pushed/pulled/dragged that end of the trap all over the place before he finally figured out that there was a big opening at the other end he could use to get to it. Every time I checked the trap it was pulled around to a different position. Once it was even upside down!

Very easy to use, although placement instructions are for mouse trap, not rat trap
Last night, I was driving home, on a phone call, when I pulled into the garage. I happened to see a lone mouse, sitting on top of a case of paper towels out there. I hung up, got out of the car, slowly walked out of the garage and around to the front door, walked through the house, grabbed a net, opened the garage door, net in hand, hoping I could catch and release, but as soon as the net was coming down, the mouse ran under the car. I slid the net under the car, toward the mouse, and it ran out of the open garage door. Yay! But, of course, it must've found something interesting in there earlier, so I assume we're bound to see it again. A year or two ago, we had rats outside and I bought the Owltra electronic rat trap, figuring I'd cover it somehow to keep it from getting wet, but a neighbor's cat seems to have eliminated the rats before I got a chance to see it up, so I never used it. But last night, I grabbed it, loaded it up with a dab of peanut butter and batteries, and read the instructions to see how to place it. The instructions said to place it with the opening facing away from the wall, but that left me scratching my head since that seems like it would put the trap *perpendicular* to the wall, not parallel to it. I posted a question about that here and some kind folks replied, but after looking at the *mouse* version of this trap, I think I understand why I was confused (and why the folks who answered might have been confused about my confusion :) - The *mouse* trap has its opening on the *side*, so placing the *mouse* trap parallel to the wall allows one to place the trap with -- as the instructions guide -- the opening facing away from the wall. Easy peasy. - However, the *rat* trap has its opening on the *end*, so that item in the *mouse-version* instructions doesn't make sense (or didn't to me). I believe that the optimal placement for both styles of traps is to put the trap parallel to the wall. (I assume the mouse-trap instructions were written for someone who might think that the side opening should face the wall.) I'm not a fan of killing animals, but also don't want pests living in our house/garage, so I hope that 1) I never see them again OR 2) that this trap humanely and quickly dispatches them. I just ordered two of the mouse-version traps because we're dealing with a mouse, not a rat, and I think that having a couple placement options for the mouse/mice is good. I'll circle back if my rating changes, but I think that losing one star for misleading (or at least confusing) instructions when it comes to placement is not unreasonable.

Works, but won't buy more
I have mice in my house every fall and winter. In the past I've used a live trap and driven them far away and released them. I've never intentionally killed anything in my life besides mosquitos and ticks, and killing the mice was out of the question. But I read that the survival rate for relocated mice is very low. And then I made a horrible mistake. I forgot to check one of the live traps and didn't know there was a mouse in there until I could smell it. I was wracked with guilt for slowly starving this little creature to death, and due to my forgetful nature, I was very worried it would happen again. This year the mice are worse than ever. We've tried sealing any entry points, but it's an older house and I'm sure they'll always find a way in. One night my dog ran into the kitchen and snatched a little mouse off the floor and killed it instantly... thankfully he didn't eat it, but I don't want him to be in charge of pest control, and we're allergic to cats. I decided I'm going to have to resign to killing them. But then I saw some stuff about snap traps and the possibility of a trap not killing the mouse instantly and injuring it severely so it suffers through a slow death... That was absolutely out of the question. I did a lot of research and found these electrocuting traps. It seems like the most likely option that will kill them instantly without suffering. The traps are pretty simple to use, and I caught a mouse in each trap within 24 hours. It seems like I can only get one every few days, but i also haven't fully cleaned the traps so they probably smell suspicious to the mice. I got a Victor trap that does the same thing but the design is different, and I prefer the Victor because it's easier to empty the traps. You just pop the lid open vs having to remove the whole top of the trap like this one. The frequency of catching the mice is the same in both traps, but I'll buy more of the Victor vs this simply for the ease of emptying them. I still hate it and I feel really bad about killing them. I have to make my boyfriend empty the traps because I can't stand to see their dead bodies. But at least I know their deaths were very quick.

Great product!
This device works fast in eliminating mice! I have 3 in my garage and within a few hrs they are full!! Only downside is cleaning. There is no specific instructions on what to use to clean. I just used regular soap and water.

Fast working!
Mice have ignored professional traps and poison yet I have caught three with humane trap but it was a nightmare having to them take them somewhere far from home. Set this trap and within 30 mins it zapped one. I used seeds as bait. Feel bad about killing them but it’s becoming a big problem!

Need to check it daly at least, otherwise will be for spares.
Owltra 1: Cought a rat after 10 days, for some reason. Last 2-3 days did not check it, so found teh rat rotten already. Liquids all over the lower and (!)the upper part(it was a big one): - Upper part: even disasembled, cannot be separarted from the electronics, so could not clean it thoroughly. Had to use duster, brush and alcohol - still smells a lot. -Lower part - sinked in hot water and detergent - did not help much. Liquids between the plastic and metal parts remain and smell a lot. Cannot be cleaned either. Ultrasuond only might help eventually. As result: when swithed on. both green and red lighta are flashing. Overall: Cleaning not taken in consideration during design. Dissapointed.

This really works
I received this item and the instructions were very clear. It is very easy to set with a little bit of peanut butter around the size of a pea.It is easy to clean and reset. This worked and we now have no mice in our shed.

Important tool for Mice control
It is the most painless way to killing mice as an instantaneous high voltage current zaps the mice. Easy to set up and it blinks with green light when it zaps a mouse. Easy to clean and then ready to re-use. Must buy if you live in a rat infested house

Excellent, worth the additional cost.
Took longer to arrive as I think it comes from overseas, but works fine with 4x AA batteries. I use rechargeables. We placed it in our loft after hearing suspicious noises and 3 mice have been caught in the past couple weeks. Very easy to empty and operate, with a blinking green light if a mouse has been caught. Peanut butter tempts them in!
