Outstanding filter!

At .5 micron filtration, this baby delivers some of the best water from my above counter kitchen unit. There’s lots of 5 micron filters out there but that little decimal point is important! I’ve been using this particular filter for about 10 years and this Amazon deal is one of the best available. If you want odorless, crystal-clear water, this is the way to go!

Filters for better tasting Water

I can tell the difference in taste of Arizona water when this filter is in place. I don't care for the low flow restriction. And, (refer to picture of filter) on the last two of these filters I've purchased the side of the "green ring" at bottom is shattered and broken. Either storage or delivery is breaking this end piece and I've hoped it does not make a difference in performance. Price makes a difference too, as comparable filter at local home store is several times more expensive. When flow gets so slow you can no longer stand it, then it's time to replace (takes about 4 to 5 months for my water).

data sheet does not indicate lead removal.

Good for taste/order removal. This is the same Pentair/Pentek CBR2-10 unit I purchased locally in February 2017. Ordering online through amazon in July 2018, the product spec info provided on amazon order page indicates lead removal. The spec sheet that showed up with the July 2018 unit does not state lead removal. States "chlorine taste & odor", "bad taste and odor", "sediment". "Not performance tested or certified by NSF". Just a head's up to other purchasers that the website and spec sheets have changed for this carbon block multi-media filter (0.5 micron) to no longer indicate lead removal capability.

Inexpensive, effective replacement filter with added flow restrictor to enhance filtration

I installed this filter undercounter using a standard Pentek Slimline 10" housing and 1/4 inch lines leading to a dedicated countertop filtered water faucet. The filter delivered water at .75 gallon per minute, close to the rated flow of .6 gallon. This is for a brand new filter, in my experience the flow will lessen over the next few months as the filter is used. Water tastes great, no hint of chlorine, no off taste, no powdered carbon escaped at startup. I'll update this review once the filter needs replacement to comment on filter life. Filter is rated at 500 gallons for volatile organic compound removal (VOC). Update: I installed the same filter in the bathroom using a standard Pentek 10-inch filter housing. Since there's no separate filtered water dispenser the flow was a bit too slow, so I modified the filter by enlarging the flow restrictor opening at the top of the filter using a 1/8 drill bit. This improved the water flow to an acceptable level.

Double the rated flow?

Installed under sink in 10 inch standard housing with dedicated faucet. Filled up a gallon container in 56 seconds. The flow is double the labeled rating yet no chlorine smell or taste. Wondering if I'm getting adequate filtration of other contaminants or could this be a shifted gasket or defective unit. Apartment building water pressure is 80-125 psi. Thoughts anyone?

pentek cbr2-10 great water filter at a reasonable price.

this is an excellent water filter, we use it for the whole house, and I also use another one of these for the shower, by no means am I removing all the chemicals being put in the water by the water treatment plant, but it does take away some of the chemical smell and it may also reduce the chemicals when you take a shower, if you are interested in filtering your water to reduce deadly chemicals being added by the treatment plants, then I would highly recommend this water filter, it is affordable and does a good job.

Pentek CBR2-10 Carbon Filter Cartridge

I've been using the CBR2-10 filter for years. It provides great filtration and lasts a long time. I've not calculated gallons used, but our household of 6 uses it daily. Never had a problem. Will keep buying them. If you read the specs, they are hard to beat. In case you don't know, this filter needs to go into a housing. We've found best results connecting the housing directly to the water supply [better pressure], versus the connector at the faucet [these are getting harder to find now].

Easily Damaged in Shipping

Last year, Amazon customer CQ posted up a photo in Sept. 2018 for the full flow CBR2-10, ASIN B003VT5MZK, product showing a top cap that came apart. My top cap fell off, by gravity, as I held it just after I removed the shrink wrap. As the others I had purchased over the years didn't have this problem and the one I was replacing was firmly attached I inquired with Pentair, the manufacturer of the consumer branded Pentek. A Technical support specialist II replied and informed that it would deliver unfiltered water if installed with the cap merely sitting in place. "The cap may have come loose from a case being dropped. Not too unusual from something being shipped to multiple points." It seems Pentair has not addressed an enduring issue associated with "not too unusual ... case being dropped." GE makes competitive filters, FXULC and FXUVC, with slightly different filtering specifications (which they are not adverse to publishing those as is Pentair). Check geapplianceparts dot com and enter each of those parts in the search field to compare them. It's odd they don't mention the 0.5micron (1.0 nominal) sediment filtering which is what the ~98% "turbidity" spec is about. However, neither have a flow restrictor as does the CBR2-10R. Nor does any other similar filter form other manufacturers. UPDATE I also found the Culligan D-30A and D-40A filters. The D-40A I purchased has a flow restrictor. (Some sellers are listing these without the "A". ) I am assuming the D-30A is also restricted as it and the D-40A are both marketed with a sink-top drinking water faucet. These faucets as well as refrigerator water dispensers and ice makers generally need flow restricted filters. The web site is culligandyi dot com.

Good price. Lasted a year with no significant drop in a pressure.

Used this filter as a kitchen filter for a drinking/cooking water. Not significant drop in pressure and lasted more then a year. Replaced just based on recommendations to change once per year.

Not what is written up in description

Write up for product indicated that, "Reduces protozoan cysts, chlorine taste and odor, lead, mercury, MTBE, VOCs, and fine sediment in residential water." The product sent only reduces taste , order and sediment. There is no reduction of lead, etc. Product is not as listed. See picture of product label. Will not buy again!
