I use for “wet” canned cat food.
I initially purchased a 2 bowl feeder with the dial/turn timers. Within a year, the numbers rubbed off, & sometimes it didnt open etc. Ok $20 some dollars. So I upped my game and got this one. My criteria is feeding wet food as cats should be fed wet food. I know it doesnt recommend “wet” food but…can’t find one!!!. I put my cats canned portion on one side and a bit of kibble on other. I dont worry about it being cold. Canned cat food is on shelves. Its not meant to be fed COLD. I put portions in night before, set timer and it pops open in am. Thank god I can sleep in now! It has clicking sound when opening which alerts cat. Then before I leave for work I put kitty PM feeding in. He is pretty much fed same time am and pm even if I work or not. I work 12hr shifts in hospital. This feeder has never failed. My only complaint is I wish the timers would have 15 or 30 minute choices instead of just hour and have back light when using. I also wish bowls were stainless . So, if I go to bed at 10pm and I need kitty fed at 5am you press number of hours…before opening which is 6. I highly recommend this feeder. I would gladly pay more for more features/app/wi-fi, true time settings etc etc but is has to feed wet food. I am NOT looking to leave kitty alone and just set a feeder. My vet states these automatic feeder are good. The animal doesnt consider you just a food source. They relax and it can help with bingers and gulpers. This feeder is great. I continually look for new feeders etc. new options. Why cant someone vacuum package wet cat food in large pouch that can be put into machine. The machine will squeeze/drop/ extrude out set amount of WET food at set time! Or a machine that integrates with voice activated speaker/home speaker system. But, for now….this is working and great option. Its does work for wet food.

A simple timed feeder
I have two very fancy, very expensive wifi enable 6 meal feeders. I use them daily for snacks throughout the day and I use them for full sized meals when I am out of town (even with a sitter checking in). I love them. But I needed another kind of feeder. I needed something simple that could feed my kitties at 6am every morning. Why? Because my little girl meows her head off until she is fed in the morning if she is locked out of the bedroom. If I let her be in the bedroom at night, she would start biting us around the same time. She is relentless and has an insatiable appetite. Waking up at 6am every day to loud meowing or painful biting was not fun. I tried everything to deter this behavior including extra playtime before bed, extra snacks before bed, ignoring her when she cries, locking her out of the bedroom when she would bite... but nothing worked. She cried for an hour once while I painfully listened from the other side of the door and just wanted to comfort her more than anything. I read so many forums about this kind of behavior and everyone said that she probably is actually hungry and that I should feed her more. The problem is that she won't eat a huge meal. She never has. She self regulates herself and in doing so there always needs to be food available for her... but not for her brother who struggles with overeating. Anyway, I decided to try a feeder that I could set to feed her right at the time of morning that she starts to meow. 6am. I didn't need fancy feeders. I didn't want something that plugged in (like my fancy feeders) because my living room outlets are all used up already (old apt with very few outlets makes high tech life hard). I needed battery powered. I needed two feeding trays (one for each kitty). I needed something safe that wouldn't close on them and pinch them. These feeders were the best answer to my problem. The trays can be timed to open at different times but I set them both to the same time. The trays inside can be removed for cleaning. They run on 4 AA batteries. The screen is digital. They open when they are supposed to and make a very quiet opening noise that signals to my cats that it is time for food without waking me up. The lids don't close automatically so I don't have to worry about pinched kitties. I put some food in the feeders and set them to the lowest time setting of 1 hour. At exactly an hour from when I set the feeders, they opened and without prompt, my cats both went over and started eating their snack. Victory. I used the feeder the same night I received it and I was able to sleep until my alarm went off. No waking up 2-3 times each morning. Best money ever spent. I only took a star off because of the way the timer works. Being on an hourly countdown makes sense in theory. But there are two things wrong with this system. You can't set it once and forget it. It would be nice to just set it for 6am and every morning at 6am it would open. Instead I have to do math every night to make sure that I am setting it for the right number of hours. I work a weird schedule so my sleep schedule isn't consistent and this becomes annoying. The other problem with this system is you can't set it for EXACTLY 6am unless you wait for it be EXACTLY 10pm or 11pm or 12am or whatever. Because it starts counting down from that moment. So if it is 10:30pm I have to make a decision to either have the feeder open at 5:30am or 6:30am. So far I have chose the earlier option for fear of my kitty meowing at 6am because the feeder hasn't opened yet. Cats are very habitual. Their bodies actually start preparing for a meal when a meal is expected so the minutes matter. In the wild their bodies would prep for a meal when the kill was happening but domestic cats have a very strict internal clock. They know when it's meal time. 6:30am is 30 minutes too late. An upgraded timer would bring these feeders to a 5 star rating.

Doesn't work intermittently; really angry cat
The concept of this product is amazing - it saved us from a howling hungry cat waking us up throughout the night. However, the product itself is poor. Both doors unpredictably malfunction - you never know which side won't open, you never know when - but what you do know, is you can't count on it. The feature to manually pop open the doors also is faulty. I currently have food on one side rotting while I use the other side and wait for a replacement unit. For what the cost is, I would stay away from this product and find a better brand. (Additionally, food falls inside the unit under the dishes and is very difficult to keep clean.

Totally tamper-proof!
With a cat that eats everything in sight, we couldn't leave him alone overnight without rushing back to feed him in the morning. So I did a bunch of research on the best feeder for under 100$, that could NOT be tampered with and this is the one I found. And boy! Am I happy with it! I tested it out twice at work before bringing it home and setting it up before leaving overnight, and it was great! It's important to note that when one side pops open it will also have another clicking sound me time after which made me worry at first that the other side was jammed. But nope! This thing works great! The cat cannot get inside by any means and it's very simple controls. Another thing to note is that the button you push to open the lids can be tricky, be sure you feel the button click and hold it for a while. If it doesn't click under your finger, you missed it. While the price is a bit high, you can't argue with how well it works. Plus the cat knew the sound after one day!

I can sleep again!
This feeder is a gift to all of mankind who have demanding cats. The first night I set it up was the first full night of sleep myself and my dog have had in the 5 months since I got the cat. My poor, deprived kitty was starving to death in the space between his last feeding between 10pm and his breakfast when I would get up at 6:30. Now that I have the feeder set to go off at 2am and 5am, his hunger is no longer driving him to run around the house crying for help. No longer does he need to use his claws to support himself on the mattress to keep from collapsing from lack of sustenance. And my precious Bernese/St.Bernard is now safe from nightly attacks by the prowling hunter seeking to fill his empty belly. The feeder has been working perfectly with no glitches for the past 6 months, it is quick and easy to set, and is very quiet (it clicks when it opens up, quiet enough that I sleep right through it, but loud enough to let the cat know it’s open). Cleaning is a breeze, I just pop the inserts into the dishwasher once a week and shake out any crumbs that might have fallen under the dishes.

Descent dog and cat feeder but with caveat
I bought this for my friend's cat, the portion size is good and it's cat safe. There is no way those kitty and knock and bang the feeder to make it open. At least the feeder works so far. It is not the cheapest in the market, the only gripe i have is I would expect a function to reset it to the last timer I set it to , rather than reentering every single time. For the price I pay it's not all that worth it. So beware, if you don't mind resetting the time everyday then this can work for you. I deducted 2 star because of that.

Disappointed-don’t recommend
We had this only a couple weeks and the right hand lid wouldn’t open. As well, it uses battery power so fast! We use rechargeable batteries and after only 2 days with fully charged batteries the “low battery” display comes on. This means it’s hard-to-near-impossible to open the lids. It’s not convenient to change out 4 batteries every 2-3 days in order to feed my cat.

Very disappointing: the noisy clicks scare my cat away - can’t use it
Pros: a small easy to clean DIGITAL feeder that you can rely on for feeding TIMES! Cons: scary, loud CLICKS at opening time! My cat got scared away and won’t get near it even with his favorite treats in it. I thought he would eventually get used to the clicks but no! He gets very anxious when he sees the feeder on the floor. I had to return it. If it hadn’t been of the noisy clicks and of my cat’s reaction to them I would have kept the feeder because I liked the idea of being able to rely on an exact time of serving. I am sure the design could be revised and produce a device that would offer the benefits of a digital timer without the noisy clicks that scare our pets away! I remember reading a review mentioning the noisy clicks before buying my feeder but I never thought the « noises » would scare MY pet! I should have taken that review more seriously.
