Keep the pump clean.
Our picky calico will now ONLY drink from this waterer, and only from the TOP of the waterer. We also have a ceramic waterer from PetSafe, but with one cat struggling with cat acne, I wanted to try stainless steel as well. Since it's from PetSafe, it uses the same filter and pump as our other waterer, so this was a no-brainer to try. It is super light, super easy to wash (the main parts can go in the dishwasher!) and is far more quiet, almost silent. We have it in our dining room and hardly know it's there. The only caveat is the pump and filter. Replace the external filter every two weeks whether you think it needs it or not, and the internal filter every 4 weeks. I don't know if it's because it's in a higher traffic area of our home or what, but this seems to dirty much faster than the ceramic one. The pump needs to be broken down and cleaned every two weeks, and I recommend buying the little brush set for PetSafe pumps. I tried using a toothbrush for awhile, but the little brush set is designed to get all the nooks and crannies. It really has helped our cat's acne issues, and she loves it, so that's the real bonus!

Cats LOVE IT!!! Super hydrated now!
My cats drank out of a plastic fountain for awhile. It kept getting…slimy? And some black sludge would get in the filter despite cleaning every 4-6 weeks. I got this fountain because the metal is supposed to ward off that slimy sludgy material. I have to refill it every other day now, because my cats are drinking so much more water!! Cat-and-cat-mom approved!

So far so good!
My cat LOVES this thing! I bought this specifically for when we were on a trip out of town for a week because her water bowl ends up with a layer of fur floating in it and any food she accidentally flings into the bowl while eating. When we're home we sometimes have to dump out and refill her water two times per day, but our pet sitter was only coming to care for her once per day so I figured at least a fountain would constantly be running and filtering the water so she'd constantly have clean water. We set it up the night before our flight and she was very curious and intrigued by the water and light reflections, wanted to paw at it, and it did make her want to drink water but for a few days she would check out the water fountain and then go over to her regular water bowl to drink water from that instead. After a few days, we kept catching her on our pet cams drinking from it. She drank at least a couple of times per day with her regular water bowl, but would sometimes have long bouts where she would ignore it. She has consistently been drinking much more water from the fountain than she ever did with her normal bowl. I had been planning on disassembling and storing it while we were home, but with how much she loves it and how often she drinks from it, even though we're very much lacking when it comes to an adequate amount of power outlets and space in our kitchen, we're keeping the fountain as a permanent fixture, plugged in 24/7. We've only used it for two weeks exactly at this point, so can't speak to any issues with rust, but thus far there isn't any issue with the steel. The filters work great and keep the water clean for a long time. Our pet sitter dumped and replaced the water once while we were gone and we did the same after we got back, I finally disassembled and cleaned it today, so technically we went 2 weeks between cleanings by replacing the water a couple of times, but you are supposed to take it apart and clean it every 7 days. With the stainless steel, it's easy to see when it needs to be replaced and/or cleaned. Steel is the most sanitary material for food and water so I would never consider a plastic fountain anyway. I have several other products from PetSafe that are all good quality so I felt like their fountain would be a safe bet, and so far so good, I'm pleased with it and the quality. The only thing that would make it better is if I could somehow have it be battery powered and if the footprint was even smaller since we have an NYC apartment, but this is actually one of the smaller fountains available so it's not too big. She is pretty skittish when it comes to noises, but the fountain is not loud at all. The only thing we hear is the water trickling (which is good since that helps make her want to drink the water). We can't hear the motor at all, but we do have a constant low hum from our air purifier and fridge and usually traffic and subway noise, so maybe if you live in the middle of nowhere and nothing else in your house makes noise, you might hear it faintly, I wouldn't know.

Works as expected, but big design flaw holding it back
I've been using this water fountain for my 3 cats for over a year, but I'm ready to switch. There's a design flaw that other makers have seemed to recognize. Keeping the water source separate from the drinking water. This system simply bubbles water from the source, to the top, back down to the source. The cats fur, mucus, etc just pools in the tray and requires cleaning a lot more often than those designed with a drinking tray separate from the water source.

Hands down the best pet fountain I've ever had!
This is hands down the best pet fountain I've ever owned. It's quiet, easy to fill and maintain, and my dog loves it because his long nose doesn't get splashed by a stream of water when he drinks (he's a dachshund). The only drawback is that the filters are a little pricier than the filters for other fountains I've tried but the fountain is so much better that it's worth paying the extra for the filters. If I could give it six stars, I would.

Looks Good, but Amazon Goofed
I bought the Seaside fountain “like new” via Amazon (obviously). The whole thing was pretty easy to assemble, and the instruction booklet does a great job if you do need help. The stainless steel seems fairly sturdy and reliable, so I expect it would hold up well in the dishwasher and over time, though I didn’t wash it. HOWEVER, Amazon’s description of its status wasn’t quite accurate. It was listed as being in its original packaging with no damage noticed, I believe. It did come in the box, but someone had clearly ripped into the packaged bits. The plastic bags holding the items were torn open, and both filters included were missing. The propeller inside the water pump was dirty. I also noticed a few small scratches on the inside of the fountain. Now, I think the fountain I got would be fine if the missing pieces had been mentioned and small marks, but as a “like new” product, I’m not satisfied. I’ll be returning this product for a “new” one.

My kittens love it.
I had tried two fountains but my three kittens would not drink from them. I think that maybe the fact that the water fell down waterfall style that they didn't like it splashing. I decided to try this one because it bubbles out and runs down the sides without splashing. They looked at it from all angles but within a couple of days they were using it instead of the bowl of water I left for them. I clean it every two weeks. They each have their own way of drinking from it and they don't spill water or get gunk in it I do use distilled water since I have hard water so I don't have to worry about calcium buildup. I love it and more importantly so do my kittens!!!!!

Do NOT Buy unless you're sure ... Can't Return
Thinking about "trying" this product to see if your pet might like it and use it? Think again. For some unknown reason, even though there is no warning on the product page, you CANNOT RETURN this product, regardless of whether it shows up broken or doesn't work. Imagine my surprise when I tried to return it and there is no option to do so .... I lost a lot of goodwill for Amazon and its customer service today.

Strange Residue
The media could not be loaded. It was very easy to set up and I was very excited for the cats to start using it. But three days after setting it up strange white bubbles started to appear on the top of the water and a strange slimy residue started to appear on the sides. I clean the bowl out and rinse the filter and the next day it happened again. I took out the filter for the pump and I’m going to see how that works but for the price I’m not too thrilled for this to be happening. UPDATE: it is now several months later and the slimy Residue is only getting worse. Everything is green after a day or two.

Waste of money not UK compliable
Didn't realise seller was in the US. This product is Not UK compliable. Has a completely different plug on it. Does not fit and UK SOCKETS. Alot of money to buy and cost me nearly as much to return it. Anyone in the UK DO NOT BUY IT.

My cat and bird love it.
The media could not be loaded. My bird liked to swim in it the first time he saw it it’s nice because he won’t have to jump in the sink when I’m washing the dishes or brushing my teeth. My cat the first 5 min didn’t want to go near it and then took a try and started to drink in it and he didn’t stop to drink for 5 long minutes so I guess he also like it. It’s making a water sound I was sure it red quiet but I will see in long term if I notice it or not. I will also see how many days it takes before having to fill it again as sometime I need to go for some days and I count on this to give him water.. it looked smaller thanks expected when it arrived. Update ( I have to poor more water every 3 to 4 days as it will start to make a big noise)

the fountain went together just great. Your illustration's are the best. So, it hummmmms quietly with no water sprouting out. water level is high. there is a seal.
