Comes with everything you need and looks great
The casting is a bit rough so I gave it a 4, the writing where it reads LOCKED - OPEN is not clear , otherwise it works fine, I replaced the door latch assy. and now I can lock my patio door again. I ordered the kit with the catch but it turns out that the old catch was fine, the door handle came with a catch and the new catch is the 3rd so I will never need a catch again...

Installation Help - You'll Need It
There's probably no way to avoid buying this item if you must replace the handle set on your sliding glass door because - as far as I can tell - no other company manufactures and sells an equivalent product. In other words, Prime-Line has no competition, and it shows. Worst offense: the 1 1/4" chrome screws supplied to secure the handle will not work on a 1" door - you'll need to buy 1 1/8" screws instead. Second worse offense: the instructions are abysmal, and include an explicit diagram error. At the bottom of this written-by-an-engineer with arrogant indifference to the customer who actually relies on the instructions is a note saying "Installation drawings are typical for this style of replacement part. They may not show a part identical to the one you are installing". In other words, "We at PRIME LINE PRODUCTS couldn't be bothered to write accurate instructions for the part you just purchased from us. Good luck!" If you visit their web site they helpfully ask you to request an installation video if you need help. On second thought, maybe it's not the engineer's fault. Anyway you don't need a rant. If you've gotten this far you probably just want some help installing the bloody thing. Here's what I learned that may save you some aggravation: (1) Installing the lock supplied with this item is optional. If you do not want to use the lock then you can use the black metal exterior-facing pull as you find it. However if you DO want to use the lock then you will need to remove and discard a round metal disc where you will subsequently insert the lock cylinder. You can't push the metal disc out with your hands; it's designed to be secure for people who need it to stay put (because they don't want to use the lock and the disk faces the outside). Here's the easiest way to remove the disc: - Place two pieces of flat wood about 1" apart on a hard surface (like the floor) - Place the black metal exterior pull unit on top of the two pieces of wood so that the disc is positioned over the 1" gap between the two pieces of wood. The black finished side of the pull (the side that you will grip to open the door when it is installed) should be facing DOWN. - Take the largest screwdriver you have and stick it through the cylinder lock hole so that it is resting on the back of the small metal disc that you need to remove. As much as possible you want to center the screwdriver on the disc. - Take a hammer and give the screwdriver a hard whack. The disc will pop out. You don't want to get crazy but you do want to strike the screwdriver pretty hard. If you just tap it the disc may come partly off and then you might have the challenge of pulling it the rest of the way off with a pliers, and that invites damage to the opening, etc. - Discard the black disc once it's out. You have to install the lock now or your door will have a hole in it through which water and cold air will enter. You're committed. (2) There are TWO different washers involved in assembling the lock, and they're both "thin". Like all washers, pretty much. The instructions unhelpfully tell you to "Slip thin washer under lock disc on inside of casing, if supplied." The diagram shows what appears to be the smaller, springier, black wire-like washer inside the locking mechanism but the diagram isn't accurate and in any case that's not where the smaller, springier, black wire-like washer goes anyway. Here's how it works: - the black, wire-like, springy washer that comes with the locking cylinder stays where it is. You do not need to remove it. It's purpose is to supply tension to help make the cylinder revolve smoothly. - the silver, standard washer that comes in the parts bag (what the instructions call the "thin washer") is placed over the end of the lock cylinder AFTER you have inserted the lock cylinder in the black metal "outside pull" handle. - You will need to push down the little tab at the end of the lock cylinder so that the washer can get past it. This is an important step and it took me a while to find a way to do it. In the end I used a knife edge to carefully push the tab in far enough that I could get the washer past the tab. Once the washer is past the tab, the tab snaps out and holds the washer in place, which in turn prevents the lock cylinder from falling out. (3) This is getting long. OK: use of the interior wood handle is optional too. if you have a 1" door and you do NOT want to install the wood handle then use the 2 black screws to hold the unit together in your door. Everything will fit just right. I have a 1" door so I can't vouch for the fit if you have a 1 1/8" door, but it seems to me you'll be ok too. However if you have a 1" door and you DO want to install the wood handle then you have a trip to Home Depot in your near future. The 1 1/4" chrome screws are too long to secure the handle; the screws will not insert all the way no matter how hard you turn them. I am just guessing, but I suspect some of the reviewers whose handles fell off after a short interval used the screws provided and did not realize that the wobble creates extraordinary shear stress on the screws and the handle brackets. That shear stress may account for the short life of their handles for those people. Anyway, buy some shorter screws and you will have a working door. One final note: the manufacturing quality is somewhere between so-so and poor. Two items specifically caught my attention. The lock cylinder seems cheaply made, of light metals that you generally wouldn't expect in an exterior lock. Also, the interior On-Off lever sits loosely in its slot and requires too much force to click left and right. It's basically shoddy construction, as if the manufacturing tolerances are insufficiently exact for the parts to fit together smoothly. There are more installation clarifications I could supply but these are the things that slowed me down the most. If anyone reading this can locate a competing product from a company that treats their customers with a little more consideration and respect please post the Amazon link. These guys really need some competition if they're going to make this into a quality product. I suspect it's the only language they understand.

Pleasantly surprised once installed
If your mechanically inclined you'll find this replacement a fun challenge. If not watch a few YouTube videos on how to disassemble the assembly. I did have to reuse my original latch as the kit, while providing four different lengths , did not have one that was needed for my install. Once assembled and adjusted properly I found a great deal of relief in knowing the door is secure and lock quality itself will keep honest people out. For the price was very reasonable.

Locking mechanism is iffy 2.5 stars.
After ordering this which was very similar to one that had been on the patio door for years and spending the money to have my handy man spend over an hour trying to get it installed, this handle set worked for a couple of days. I can lock it with effort from the inside, but cannot get the key to turn the mechanism to lock it from the outside, which had been the reason for the replacement as the components had worn out. So...I'm in the same situation once again. Returning this is ridiculous because there is nothing to replace it that is any better, and my handy man stated that these types of handle/lock sets were not made well component-wise. To return, I would be out the additional money having to have it removed and another one installed. The only good thing I can say about this is that the handle is very sturdy and it does eventually close and lock from the inside, although you have to push hard to get it to do that.

Great replacement and does the job
We used this as a replacement on our sliding door and it is working out very well. There is an extensive amount of traffic in and out of this door and it continues to hold up. We did have to remove it once to tighten the screws into the back side of the wood handle portion, but that was easy enough to accomplish. Great replacement for our broken one and would recommend.

The lock broke during installation.
Everything was great but the lock. The last pin that holds the lock in place sprung out and I completely lost it couldn’t find it. So I had to put in the cap back on that covered the lock hole. It could’ve been a 5 star product but unfortunately the lock ruined it for me.

Quality
This is not a flush mount handle that I thought it was, however company allowed me to return it without issue. When I attempted to install this one it felt like a quality product

Fits and works well
This worked well. I had one from Homedepot that broke down pretty quickly and never really fit well. This one is very tight and looks good.

Great value and quality
Easy to install and for the price, it's well worth it. You can never get this much in a kit at your local hardware store.
