Piece of mind
Since the air handler unit for my AC/heat pump is in the attic, a spill would cause water damage to my ceiling. This safety switch provides a little extra piece of mind, knowing that in the event my condensate drain pan were to fill up, the A/C would be automatically switched off until the water level fell down. I installed it on the red line and had just enough line to reach where the thermostat wires reached the air handler unit. One little wrinkle was that I had 2 brown 18/5 thermostat wires. Took a little bit to figure out which one was for the thermostat and which one was for the compressor. I ended up putting the switch in between the red power source in the air handler and the two red wires in the 18/5 thermostat wires. One 18/5 wire was going to the thermostat, the other was going to the outdoor compressor. I noticed that when I activated the switch, the thermostat would lose power. Perhaps switching to the yellow wire would avoid this, but since I have a heat pump, I'm was not sure if it would still operate in heat mode.

Failing to shut off
There’s been couple times the water level rises but the switch didn’t shut off. Seems like something is sticky in there.

Does it’s job
Had a leaky cooling coil in my attic that caused some ceiling damage. Added a drain pan and installed this float switch to disconnect the signal to the condenser if the pan fills with water. Works as advertised.

It works best as a final solution
My initial thought was to use this switch as the first line of defense. It won't work, thus it can only supplement the draining holes. Fundamentally US HVAC design is flawed on secondary drain pan. The pan is flat, meaning any meaningful water sensing, draining will require "enough" depth. To make things a bit worse, this float works to shut off the circuit with half an inch movement, meaning the best way to install the switch would require touching the bottom of the pan. The enclosed clip sets the switch too high thus I need to flatten the metal clip and drill holes to install it. Since it is hard to drill stainless steel, I ended using the two clipper points as my drilling point, which set this switch a bit up from the bottom. The good news is, the bottom of the pan is filled with debris from Attic, thus getting away from the bottom might help to reduce false alarm. It all depends on how do you want it to work. So, this switch sets a bit too high thus it works only after secondary drain hose is blocked instead of sensing if there is any water inside the pan.

Are these switches tested?
After a blocked drain in my A/C condensate pan overflowed and took out my bathroom ceiling, this looked like the perfect solution to prevent this from happening again at our vacation home. I spent 2 hours in a very hot attic trying to install this switch that should have taken less than 5 minutes. The A/C would not come on with the switch installed. After removing the switch and restoring the thermostat wiring, I did a continuity check with a meter and found that the switch closed when the float was in the up position instead of the down position. This is a very simple test that I assumed would be done at the factory. I had to leave town without protecting my ceiling from future flooding because this was faulty out of the box. The replacement switch tested good but has not been installed yet. UPDATE: Found out from another review that flipping the float would have fixed the issue I encountered. Would be nice to put this information in the instructions. Installed this on a recent trip in 5 minutes with no issues.
