This is quite nice!

This is sitting on my deck on a small table. Right now (February), I get about 11 hours of light a day, and of that, this gets around 4 or 5 hours of direct sun. Yesterday, last light was 6:13, and the lantern was shining. Is it bright in that it'll provide light to read by? No, but I don't at all believe it's meant to do that; it provides ambience. It's plenty bright enough to do that nicely. I was even surprised that it was still shining at 2 am - the little solar hanging lights I have on a railing leading to the back of my house were long since finished for the night - and those get direct sun for a considerably longer period of time. I can't speak to how it'll be in weather yet - but we're supposed to get rain and snow and wind later in the week, so I'll find out. It *is* light. The coming storm features heavy winds as well, so we'll see. If it blows around/over, I'll glue some metal washers or similar to the bottom to give it more weight.

They are beautiful. Look lovely when on. Not enough brightness to light much area..just pretty accent item. I had to take 2 apart and fix the battery that wasn't making contact.

Great lantern but it leaks and now has 3/15/2-15 has died due to water leaking into electronic parts.

Very attractive lantern and is a perfect addition to any deck or patio. Appears to cost much more than paid. However, the one question I asked, "does it leak?" The response was to that was, "unknown." I hung the lantern outdoors for 2 days and all was well. The third day it rained. That night the lantern did not light. Waited another day for full sun and that night it again did not light. I unscrewed the top and water ran on to my pants. Checked the batteries and they were dead. Dried the water from where the batteries are located and placed newly charged batteries and the lights came on. Where the wires came through on the top to the batteries there is a small area where the wires enter the battery compartment. That was the only place I figured where water could enter the top portion. I filled that hole with silicon and that should take care of the leaking problem. Will update if the silicon does not fix the leaking problem. Regardless, it is worth the extra step before hanging the lantern or you will have to do as I and take the lantern apart and dry or return it. 04/7/2015: The lantern finally died due to water leaking into the electronics. The last act was noting the lantern would no longer charge the batteries. Figuring perhaps the batteries were the problem and installed two new rechargeable batteries. The lights came on immediately; however, upon setting the lantern back outdoors and in the sun, the lights did not shut off. Therefore, I turned off the light until it became dark and turned on the light. The next morning the lantern lights were off as it was sunny. The situation was anything than normal. The lantern was taken indoors where it would be dark and the lantern would become lighted but the light did not come back to life. This leakage is a major flaw to an excellent looking product. If the company's quality control wishes to continue to sell these lanterns, they will have to immediately solve the leakage problem and I hope they do and then announce the leakage situation has been solved. Update. After my first attempt to stop the leakage into the components compartment, the leaking ceased. However, the lantern began leaking again around the solar cells but this time it was too late to fix. The water shorted out the circuit which will not charge the batteries or turn off the lantern when the sun rises in the morning. I am ordering another lantern and will take steps to secure any area that could possibly leak into the area of the electronic components that control the operation of the lantern. Will update again later if I am either successful or unsuccessful in preventing rain water leakage into the electronic components in the top of the lantern.

Hanging attachment

I have ordered this two years ago and the ones from that time still work and hang nicely, even through varies weather conditions. However, when I ordered one recently I noticed some changes. One change was to the switch that turns the unit on and off. The original switch was and a move side to side switch (rubber coated), which I did have some difficulty with due to weather or moisture getting into the switch. The new switch is like a rocker switch (still rubber coated) and this seems like it could be an improvement. The next change was to the hanging attachment at the top. The original version was that the loop attachment would screw onto the top of the lantern by an all thread coming out of the lantern, which held nicely and they still do till this day (over two years). These lanterns have been subjected to some harsh weather conditions and took the test. However, with the newer version the loop was already attached to the lantern. I hung the lantern up for two nights and to my surprise the lantern was on the ground. The reason is that the loop attachment is now attached by a wood type screw coming out of the unit and screws into the loop attachment which is a plastic type material, I believe. What happen is that the movement of the lantern swaying back and forth stripped the threads and now provides no hold for the unit to hang. This never happened with the original version. Trying to find a way to repair this problem. I would say go back to the older version way of attaching the loop attachment part. This is a great lantern of looks and light affects. I have had many compliments. Hope corrections can be made.

poor quality

Product was very poorly put together, very flimsy. Have to unscrew 6 screws to change the battery battery lasted about an hour. Should definitely have space for batteries with larger capacity and easier access to them. I would say this product is worth about $20. Returned it after testing it for one night.

Buyers Beware

Poor quality I purchased 2. One of them isn’t flat on the bottom and wobbles on flat surface The second one has a flaw where one of the solar panels on the top is glue on I completely of center Wag off leaving a gap to a hole unbeaten which looks bad and allows water in Ugh.... buyers beware

Beautiful Lantern

We now own three of these lanterns. They look so beautiful when the solar candle glows. They’re sturdy enough to handle 40 km wind gusts which we seem to be having regularly this spring! I definitely recommend this product.

Nice but needs improvement.

This lantern is beautiful. However. We bought it to hang a the cemetery for our son and went out a few days later to see how it looked and found the ring at the top had pulled out the the lantern and was laying on the ground. A very small screw was all that was holding it together, no glue or anything. A little unimpressed with that. Good to just sit on a table or something.
