The Perfect Heavy Duty Pencil Sharpener!

This is the very best of all the many pencil sharpeners we have purchased for our commercial "hand drawn" animation studio where we have "burned" through thousands of pencils since opening in 1972. It is quite, smooth and strong.

perfect for larger round construction pencils

so good I bought 2. To be completely honest, my only negative comment is, that it might be just a tad under powered. Its in my manufacturing company and many people use it. It makes a perfect point on our larger diameter construction pencils... I would continue to buy this sharpener again and again....

So far, anyway.. In classroom use (~35 pencils per day).

Other reviewers are right - this thing is quiet! Quieter than my manual Boston. And it shaves tips quickly AND smoothly. (If you're a woodworker, you'll recognize that this thing makes clean, rather than rough cuts.) If you're crazy or fussy enough, you know that some sharpeners, compared to others, leave the wood SMOOTH. This one leaves your pencil smooth, which suggests to me that the cutters are working cleanly - sharply - efficiently. Oh, and did I mention the 10 year warranty? Other "good" sharpeners have a 2 or 3 yr warranty. I spoke to a Staples rep on the phone because my wife's electric sharpeners are all worn out. (She teaches 3rd grade, and has 3 sharpeners. The motors are weak and get hot, and they all sharpen unevenly, and break lots of leads.) I was inquiring, were any models rated (i.e. duty cycle) for a classroom (i.e. continuous use). I was told that her Staples School-Smart, and X-Acto 'Class-Happy' (I paraphrased that 2nd name. Sorry, I don't have the model #s on me) were rated for "5-10 uses per day." Seriously?! A model named "School" something, rated for "personal or light office use - 5-10 uses per day?" My wife also has a Boston, which is more worn-out than the other two. I don't know the ages of two of them, but the Staples is nearly new. I do know that none of the three is suitable for someone who will sharpen 10 or more pencils per day, or more than 3 in a row. (They feel warm, through their plastic housings, after about 5.) The Staples rep did tell me that, for ~$60, X-Acto has a model rated for continuous use. You can read the reviews to compare that model to this one. I did, and this one looked superior. Based on initial trials, I would say that this sharpener is as good as it gets. Super quiet, very fast, even-sharpening. It remains to be seen, whether it will handle ~30 pencils daily, but the heavy rating and 10 year warranty, as well as its mass, and the ease with which it sharpens, suggest to me that this one is a winner. Oh, did mention that you can just about see the tip as it's sharpened? And when the pencil is sharp, if you're not pushing hard enough to trip the auto stop, the cutters just stop making contact. So, I presume, one could continue to "touch up" a tip, if they felt it was needed. (I'm almost never pushing that hard, as this thing sharpens so effortlessly.) I'm quite impressed, so far. And if the 10 year warranty is what it claims to be, this is one he**uva sharpener. Edit: I just took off one star, as we've realized that the sharpener only works for pencils down to about 3". Still a great sharpener in every other respect, but one has to use a backup sharpener for shorties.

Broke after two days

If this continued to work, it would have been great. After a couple of days, this sharpener would t work unless you held the shavings drawer in. Then, it stopped all together. I went back to an Xacto for my classroom. Very disappointed.

Quick & Quiet Sharpening

I purchased the Evolution Axis to replace an X-acto Classroom sharpener that was definitely on its last leg. I've always been an X-acto person, but I looked into iPoint and all of its positive reviews and I'd thought I'd give it a shot. The price point is excellent and the sharpener is fast and quiet (compared to the X-acto sharpener). I wish the refuse tray was a bit larger, but everything else makes up for it. It sharpens pencils and color pencils with ease. Looking forward to many years with this sharpener.

Excellent Heavy Duty Pencil Sharpener for Standard Sized Pencils Only!

As a mother of elementary and middle school aged children, and an elementary school teacher, having the right classroom tools are important in achieving an optimum classroom experience that is free of noise, chaos and disruption. Having the right kind of pencil sharpener is crucial in maintaining this environment. An ideal pencil sharpener should be fast, quiet, can handle many pencils a day, and should have a sharp blade. The Westcott iPoint Heavy Duty School Sharpener features a tough outer case that resists damage, non-skid feet that help it stay in place during use, a quiet electric motor, auto stop technology, and a helical 12 blade that produces rounded pencil points. This sharpener is indeed very quiet, has holes for multiple sizes, a large shaving bowl, and a sharp blade that quickly and effectively sharpens pencils with a nice long narrow point. While I prefer my pencils to have a sharp but short point with a shorter wood collar (it looks like factory sharpened pencils), my children prefer the longer narrower point that this sharpener gives. However, where this pencil sharpener is lacking is that even the largest hole isn't large enough or deep enough to handle hexagonal and triangular shaped colored and graphite pencils, (like kindergarten pencils). It simply breaks off the point from the base which then gets stuck inside the sharpener and it is difficult to remove without dissembling the entire unit. For these larger, special shaped pencils I suggest hand held, large hole pencil sharpeners. This sharpener has preformed excellently for the past four months. I will update my review to give an idea as to how long the blade/ sharpening mechanisms functions effectively. Overall I highly recommend this sharpener for daily classroom and home use for sharpening of standard sized pencils and colored pencils only. Grade A-

Great for classroom use!

I've gone through a lot of electric sharpeners and this one has held up well so far. Sturdy, quiet and even sharpening. Stops when it's sharp and the reservoir holds a lot of shavings. Time will tell if it eventually sharpens unevenly, as the all seem to do! Good quality for the price and it gets moderate classroom use.

Fast and efficient sharpener

This Sharpener was review by RixCanDoIt and I was very impressed with the way this sharpener does such a great job and it didn't disappoint. At first I wasn't gripping the pencil with enough pressure and the sharpener didn't auto stop, but when I pushed ever so slightly it did. So, I tried another pencil and held it with constant pressure into the size hole I needed, and PRESTO it was fantastic. Fast, nice length and perfect point. I would highly recommend this sharpener .

sold in amazon.in but the power supply not ok for India

purchased on amazon.in when it arrivd (looks great), i realized it was 110v american power outlet ! if it is sold in amazon.in , i would expect it to run on 220V or atleast a bold disclaimer that it needs extra purchases to make it work. apparently the converters have to be higher wattage to make ti work. I finally found a converter (bulky, ugly) and spent another 1090 rupees before it started workign. will keep posted on the performance of sharpner ... few months down the line, sharpens excellent, no problems with cleaning or with usage. excellent product. once a hint to the seller to provide proper plug outlets for indian buyers on amazon.in

Highly recommended for high use!

I am an elementary school teacher and this machine saves me a lot of time and frustration. I have bought similar products before but they don't last and don't always put a nice, even point on the pencil. This has cost me a lot of money out of my own pocket. This sharpener has remained consistent and I have recommended it to colleagues. I also really love the 5 year warranty so I know that if I have any issues in the future, I have that to fall back on.
