I own the carbon and the essential and prefer the essential
I own the Carbon and the Essential Zoic short liners. I prefer the Essential. I commute each day on a bike, riding 22 miles round trip so I spend a fair bit of time in the saddle. The padding on the essential seems to actually extend further from the seam line out to the edge of the colored area in the crotch, whereas the Carbon has padding mostly in a narrower area where the sit bones make contact with the saddle. The carbon padding is, I think, slightly thicker and denser than the padding used in the essential, but it simply doesn't extend very far beyond the two smallish tear dropped areas right under the sit bones. The colored area of the Carbon is NOT all padded. For me, the placement of that small area of padding doesn't quite hit where I need it to be whereas the padding in the essential is larger in area and it does allow more cushioning for my particular anatomy. Also, the fabric of the essential is a mesh, whereas the carbon fabric is a much tighter (opaque) weave of fabric. For a hot day, or for wicking moisture, I would say the essential is better for that reason. I might switch more to the carbon when it gets colder, but honestly, the essential just feels better to me and I have defaulted to using it almost all the time. Both are well made, with strong seams and a nice elastic cuff that works to keep them from riding up the leg. Sizing seemed correct as well. I'm sure they'll both last a long time, it's just that for what I do, 11 miles twice per day, the essential works better. I have had no chance to do a long ride in either of these short liners and probably never will. Putting in 350-400 miles/month commuting is plenty of bike riding for me and I have no real ambition to do a long ride on weekends solely for the purpose of seeing how sore my rear end can get with one short liner or the other :)

I wanted to like these; I really did...
I wanted to like these, I really did. They appear to be well constructed. The chamois is first class. The elastic bands are wide and comfortable. And, the long leg length helps prevent riding up and bunching. I wear a men's medium, with a 33" waist and weigh a lean 152 lbs at 5'10". The Zoic leg bands flared out at the knee and were a bit wide for my 17" thigh, a bit of careless manufacturing I could correct myself. However, the chamois is rotated so far back in the seat that it does more to protect my cheeks than my sit bones. In a cycling position, my sit bones fall virtually across the crotch of the pad! It requires me pulling the liner up from the front in an unnatural fit for the pad to properly align with my sit bones. Surprised, I pulled out all my riding bottoms to investigate. No matter which brand I tried on, they all fit properly with my sit bones on the sweet spot of the chamois. These spanned models by Pearl Izumi, Gore, Cannon, and Performance Bicycle. On returning the first pair, Amazon offered a replacement. Unfortunately, I have the same issue with the replacement. It appears this is by design and not related to a single sample. Perhaps they may work for a more heavy set person, however, I can't recommend these for lean riders.

If You're Out All Day in the Saddle
Okay, wow, I'm the first to write a review of these. Cool! Moving on now.... After the first ride of the 2015 season wearing Zoic's Ether shorts with the stock liner, (and using the wrong saddle for trail riding), it became clear that, besides changing out the saddle, a better liner with a better chamois was required. Since I already owned two pair of the Zoic Ether shorts, I looked to Zoic for a replacement and voila, the Carbon Liner Shorts came up in the search results. Though they cost almost as much as the Ether shorts themselves, this liner really does what the folks at Zoic say it does, and that is provide all-day comfort in the saddle. Before I found these, and after changing out the saddle, I did try riding with the Ether shorts using the stock liner, and although it wasn't a bad experience, these rides are upwards of 6 hours each and the stock liner just isn't made for that. The Carbon Liner, on the other hand, is fantastic. At no point is there any discomfort, the shorts stay in place, they stay cool, and the rider stays pretty dry, too. I was, and still am, so impressed with this liner I purchased another so there's always one pair of shorts at the ready. If you're an owner of Zoic shorts and need a better liner for longer rides, the Carbon Liner is really worth buying.

This is a Really Good Liner
I have multiples of the XL version of this liner, (before I put on some additional weight), and those liners were just as advertised: comfortable for all day in the saddle. The XXL size is the same. I spent all day in the saddle this past Saturday and had no soreness, chafing, or discomfort at the end of the ride. This liner is worth the money for more than the reasons listed above, the other reason is that they last. The XL liners were purchased at least three years ago and have been through many many rides and an equal number of washings and they are still holding up like they were brand new. This liner is a top quality product and I recommend it highly for long rides on the road or on the trails.

You get what you pay for with these liner shorts
Everyone said I would have to get used to the saddle when I bought my new Fuji Jari, that I'd be stiff and sore after even short rides. So far with these liners I've not experienced any serious issues. After reading reviews and opinion pieces I figured I'd pay a little more up front and see how things turned out. I like these better than the essential liners but for my less than 30 mile rides, they both are worth every cent I paid. I'll have to update this when I get to the 50 mile rides or see how it works on the RAGBRAI. As for now, I'm more than happy. They fit well and are comfortable from start to finish.

All good
Got the xxxl , I am 250lbs an dropping , have a 40 -42in waist and the fit was good, they are not tight on the boys, but they seemed too ride up on the leg part but that is not a big issue , the padding is working , I ride 15 -20 miles on my workout , and have no booty soreness, also have other zoic liners and the xxl are also a good fit jus a little tighter on the boys, but not painful , the leg part on the xxl don't ride up and seem too kept the upper leg muscle warm , very good shorts
