Fusers don't last
I handle IT for a car dealership, and have been buying these for years. They're work horses and have a very low operating horse. The 1 problem they always have is the fusers going bad. Normally I get a couple years of use, but this 1 needed a new fuser after a couple months. It was replace under warranty and has been fine since, but still a pain.

Easy set up, scan fax print from PC
Just retired my 12 year old Brother MFC. This one still uses the fantastic brother software to scan, fax, and print from PC. Network printing is super easy. Software install does all the work. I didn't even bother with USB connection, but that is also an option. I love how you can customize scans to a folder on your PC to a PDF. Im glad Brother kept the great software. After 20 years on IT, Brother MFC has best software and best printer.

Supports duplex printing but not duplex copying nor duplex scanning
If you want to do duplex copying (copy automatically 2-sided to 2-sided), this is not the printer for you. When I bought this printer, in the feature list I saw "Duplex Printing" and thought this meant also duplex copying. Nope ! There is a different Brother model that includes duplex copying. Ditto for duplex scanning.

Excellent Printer - Would Highly Recommend
I like everything about the printer. The only bad thing is that I don't have a better place to set the printer so I have to set it near the computer which I don't like to do but I have no choice. That has nothing to do with the printer, the printer is wonderful. I have the printer set up on a home network and we have 4 computers in the house which we use daily. Any of the computers can use the printer and we like that a lot. It was simple to connect the printer to the network and everything works perfectly. Setup was simple, a child could do it. The menu is pretty simple to use, it is very intuitive and there is a decent manual in case you run into a problem. This machine scans in color which I really like, and if I need to copy a colored page I can can the page and then print the scanned image with my color laser printer. I rarely ever need to print color though, probably 99 percent of the printing I do is just text. I rarely need to send a FAX but now I have that capability. I have not tried to do that yet, but i did play with it a little and it seems to be fairly straight forward. I like the fast speed that it can print, not that I am a business with a lot of fast printing needs, but when I need several pages printed I like to get the job done and this printer prints out pages VERY fast. I would highly recommend this printer to home users or for a small business. It would work OK for a larger business too, assuming you don't need color.

Pain in the ass but works...kind of
We bought this printer for my work and man, it has been a bit of a pain in the ass. It's the slowest printer known to man. I can click print on a document and it will take 4 or 5 minutes for the printer to receive the document. Doesn't matter if it's one page or 50. It'll print decently fast so that's good. It's just getting it to print that's a pain. Plus, it doesn't let you select auto size on paper documents so if you have some that are legal sized and some letter sized you have to manually switch between the two on your computer. It scans well...unless you're using the flatbed instead of the document feeder. If you use the flatbed for something that's bigger than the feeder allows then it pops up with a weird selection boxes, which you can't delete the extras without deleting the entire document. Also, it does a prescan of the document on the flatbed then you have to select the are you want scanned because it's too stupid to just select the whole document on it's own and then it has to rescan it. So something that should take you all of 20 seconds ends up taking you much much longer. This printer is an idiot but it's worked so far. Although if you have a mac you'll have a much harder time with it than if you have a pc, which is extra dumb because more people use mac than pc these days. So stupid.

Go with an HP if you need a professional quality
The printer itself is okay. The best thing I can say about it is the toner lasts a long time. I needed a high quality laser printer for legal field and have never bought anything besides a Hewlett Packard. I decided to try a Brother based on positive reviews I read. All I can say is wow, standards are just really very different. The print quality is way below acceptable for me. Despite going into the settings and choosing the highest quality setting AND buying the best paper with the highest brightness rating to give us the crisp professional quality we need for filing our documents with the Court, Brother just isn't able to deliver. In addition to that, we were unable to use the wireless connection feature and after hours of being on the phone with tech support and them unsuccessfully trying to download various drivers to get it to work, I was charged $99.99 for the phone support. This was for a printer that was a week old and under warranty, but they told me it was not a defect in the product, but a software issue and was not covered. I was then at a later time unable to get my fax to work and called but they would not honor the same $99.99 software installation of drivers they had done earlier and said they would have to charge me again even though it was still considered an initial setup of the machine. I had done everything on the setup document sent with the machine and also in the user's guide and the fax still would not work. I have not been very pleased with a machine that just prints average quality and only partially functions as it is advertised it should. And then when you call to get tech support, you can't understand who you're speaking with except to hear that they want your credit card number. Also if you have large documents to scan, you can't keep the documents together. You have to separate them into different files. I have to use a Fujitsu scanner that lets you continue scanning. Very annoying. WOULD NOT BUY THIS AGAIN! And did I say that their tech support is VERY RUDE!

Excellent Printer
Easy setup with excellent instructions. Bonus warranty for registering your product is a nice touch. Excellent print quality and very fast printing for my home office. Much better than all the HP garbage I’ve been buying for the past several years, those feel like disposable printers because of how they fail like clockwork...probably an EPROM chip preprogrammed to render the unit useless after a certain number of prints. I actually removed a built-in battery from the circuit board of my old printer when it stopped working. I power cycled it and it worked for another 18 months after that. Some of these companies are complete crooks. Anyway, Brother seems far more professional and honest. Their whole approach to service gives you confidence that they are not doing this same garbage. I’m really happy with this unit, I’ll never buy another HP or Epson again.

Worst printer i used in my life
This printer is basically a package of issues this is maybe my first time in my life to review any product and this thing is bad to the level that it forced me to write a review issues 1- all pages printed have those back overlay of dots , the stuff printed seems like it was printed in 1920's due to this thing cleaning the cartage does not help (it was printing fine initially then 3 or 4 months it started to print this way) 2- today the wifi simply decided not to work (I am not getting valid ip address) all procedures online to fix it didnt fix it at all , i was forced to connect a cable and print (has to set static ip) I mean i had samsung printer for maybe more than 10 years didnt have single issue since day 1 i got it and the only issue is that it is not wifi never getting brother again

Faulty hardware, non-intuitive interface, poor wifi connection, and weak customer support
While the MFC-L5700DW includes all the functionality I need (copy, fax, print, dual sided printing), it functions poorly in a number of ways: -Wireless printing works poorly, as it is delayed, and often simply does not work at all. I use a Mac, and cannot comment on how it would work on a windows machine, however on my Mac and my wife's, the wireless printing is very unreliable -The user interface is non-intuitive, and there is a steep learning curve to figure out how to set it up and use the full functionality of the unit. -My particular unit is faulty--it reboots itself several times per day. After talking to customer support, I am being sent a refurbished unit. I am disappointed that it was faulty from the outset, and that I am now being offered a refurbished unit to replace a brand new unit (it is, at the time of this writing, less than 3 months old). -Finally, when it comes to customer support, I am a bit of a traditionalist, and I'd really like to be able to speak to someone on the phone, rather than by online chat. Overall, I would summarize the pros/cons as follows: Pros: it has all the core functionality of an all-in-one. I feel that the price point is reasonable for what it's intended to do. Cons: wireless printing is totally unreliable on a mac, and there is no user-friendly way to use the scanning functionality wirelessly. Overall, the user interface on the touchscreen is unintuitive and clunky. My particular unit is faulty, and being sent a refurbished unit for replacement seems unreasonable within 90 days of purchase. It would be really nice to talk to a person on the phone for customer support.

A Great Upgrade From Our Older Brother.
The printer is quick, quiet and prints wonderfully, even when doing double sided. The fax and copy functionality are great as well. We've had 2 previous Brother monochrome lasers and this one is an upgrade without having a huge learning curve. The control panel is a bit different since it's touch screen based rather than physical buttons like the older models, but it is laid out similarly. We haven't had it long enough to see how long a toner cartridge lasts before it needs replacing. We found that even though it is a wireless printer, for speed of printing and scanning it is best to use an wired ethernet connection as it can transfer data much quicker.

Works as promised (so far)
I purchased this printer on sale (21% off) so I count the value as decent. I very much enjoyed how it worked out of the box. I've only been using this printer for around a month and at the time of writing this review all is well. It's WiFi connectivity led to a simple Windows 10 setup experience for a home office, connecting to multiple computers. When adding a printer in Windows 10 it showed up almost immediately. Compared to my experience with other major printer brands, I have been impressed by Brother's implementation of printer setup (this is the first Brother printer I've purchased). The touchscreen functionality on the printer is also to be commended. Overall, the ability to print both sides (duplex) is well implemented. That said, a minor comment I'd offer to Brother is to have the default setting for the printer to have duplex turned on, and allow software (such as printing in Word) to be where you select if you need single-sided or dual-sided prints. It took me a little time to work out why printing to both sides wasn't available in Word and showed as not installed in printer properties in Windows. I suspect that Brother may have taken support calls that could have been avoided because the decision to turn off duplex printing in the printer's hardware settings, along with the not quite so intuitive process to turn duplex printing on, doesn't align with the box that tells you it can print in duplex. That said, this is a minor quibble. As someone more comfortable with technology I took this in my stride. I'd see this as more of a hurdle for those less comfortable with technology (and this could be easily fixed with a firmware update in the future). The scan to email feature is also very well implemented. For the price-point I do understand why there isn't duplex scanning. Although, I would appreciated this more clearly identified in the product specs. The consequence of this is if you want to print a document to sign and scan you're better off printing singled sided. So long as you are aware of this understandable limitation the scan to email experience is excellent. The setup on the printer of shortcuts for activities such as scan to email is also simple yet effective. Based on my short-term experience I've given this a 5-star review. There are reports of issues with creases in printing within the first year or so. If this happens for me I will be sure to follow up and revise this review.
