"Smooth" finish was pretty rough...

Bought this as a replacement for a rotted out pine gable vent. Pros: * Generally good workmanship. Not as good as the standard of 50 years ago, but far better than you generally get nowadays. * Metal screening, not nylon mesh that is so commonly the case. * Product dimensions were accurate. * Rot resistant cedar, not pine. Con - even though I ordered the smooth finish the surface was essentially rough sawn and the router moulding work had heavy tearout from using either dull bits or feeding the stock against the grain (or both?). (Subtract one star) With heavy sanding this became a good installation and I reordered. But I shouldn't have had to sand a "smooth" sawn order.

Beautiful real wood! When you can't find what you need at Home Depot, check on Amazon!

We searched our local builders, Lowe's and Home Depot to find gable roof vents and could not find what we wanted for our remodel job on our house. On a whim, I searched Amazon never thinking we would find exactly what we wanted and available on Prime for two day delivery. Was I ever wrong! These Ekena Millwork Gable Vents are super! They are exactly as described and come complete with screen attached. They are beautiful, functional and when they are stained to match the house, they will be perfect! The price is very competitive with the fiberglass and plastic alternatives we found at the big box home improvement stores. And they all would have been special order and taken a week to come in. I will post a photo when the job is finished but I look forward to seeing what else Ekena Millwork has to offer.

This is what a gable vent SHOULD be !

I am very pleased with this gable vent compared to other similar products out there. This is extremely well made with full ventilation behind the slats, not the tiny holes like in the plastic and urethane vents. The insect screen is made of heavy duty metal with small holes to keep small bugs like ants and bees out. It is secured by a full wooden frame around the entire perimeter and not just a few, cheap staples like other vents. The wide flange allows for variation in the rough opening if you happen to cut the hole a little too big. It took two coats of paint and looks great as you can see in the picture. Being made of cedar, it even smells nice ! Amazon definitely hit a home run with this one ????????????

Well made and nice architectural detail

We were looking to replace the vents on our cedar house. We shopped around online, and we almost did not order these due to some of the reviews. However, the vents the look and size that we wanted, and they were perfect. We ordered rough cedar and stained them. They are very well made and solid. The vents were easy to install. I definitely recommend this company!!

I'll fix it

Less than perfect. I bought 2 -12x17 and really liked them. I received 3- 12x12 today and while they were built ok I thought the wood used on the trim was inferior. I'm a carpenter and wouldn't try to sell this as good trim and expect to be paid for it. Not at all a Craftsman if you find this quality material. If decent wood would have been used I would have given it 5 stars and recommend it but it's as though they must have ran out of wood and just didn't care. I will put the worst one on the back of the house and fix the other myself. I would send them back but that's more hassle than to just fix them. It's to bad because this first set I received sold them 3 more. What happened?

Slow and very rough.

Waited 20 days to receive mine. Thought that was excessive. Well pleased with the quality of construction, but I would’ve thought that someone could’ve spent 5 minutes sanding before they primed them. So sad to produce a quality product and then finish it like that. I’m glad that they’re going to be over 20 ft off the ground.

Pretty rough for cedar that was supposed to be smooth.

I agree with other reviewers who feel the quality is so-so at best. Sadly, the rounded trim bead around the edge of the louvers was very rough and beaten-up looking, more like the finish of a shipping pallet... I, personally, would have been willing to pay a bit more to get something that was finished more decently.
