Expensive but cheaper that calling someone out to fix!
Glad to find this item, not so glad it was nearly eighty bucks! Apparently it’s a common failure point on these GE fridges for the water system. Many videos on YouTube to show how to fix it once you start to get the water hammering noise when trying to dispense water. Ours just suddenly failed on fine day without warning… it was quite loud! Anyway, fairly easy to fix especially if you have the right tools, nothing particularly special. You do need a long reach Philips screwdriver to get the filter housing off the fridge from the inside. The only other thing was that the foam sleeve was very tight going back through the opening and kept getting snagged. I used a zip tie to taper the end so it was easier to slip through and cut it off when done. Otherwise watch for any leaks when you attach the 1/4” hose … seems to be legitimate GE part and no other issues, fixed my problem.

Fixed GE water dispenser
This is the second one I’ve replaced. GE has design issue with the part. The pegs to release water push up into the unit over time. Easy to install.

Works great -- appears to be genuine part
Easy to install if you're doing it yourself (you really should be -- the prices appliance repair charge for these simple jobs are OBSCENE). You need a long, thin screwdriver to access the screws inside the fridge. You'll need a socket set (or wrench) in a couple sizes (1/4" and 5/8" (I think)) to remove ~6 bolts on the back and an adjustable wrench to swap the water connections. Entire job takes 10 minutes when you're practiced. First time for me took about 30 as I was going slow to make sure I understood what everything was doing. Pull the fridge out, turn off the water(!), pull the power, unscrew bolts at bottom of fridge to expose the pump connection, disconnect the 2 water line connections (over a bowl with a towel handy!), unscrew 2 bolts at top of fridge to access the filter holder, unscrew two screws inside fridge to free the filter holder, pull the assembly through, insert the new assembly, and reverse all the above steps. Really simple.

Worked great
Easy do-it-yourself repair. Saved me probably hundreds of dollars on a plumber.

Fixed the issue!
This product shipped quickly and worked to fix our issue. The original part began to vibrate whenever we used the water dispenser. Being able to get a genuine replacement through Amazon was great.

Easy repair
Had poor water pressure and a new loud whirring noise after a filter change. The filters push in a tiny button when they are seated in this item, the filter receiver/head. After several years of changing the filter, they rub and wear down the button preventing it from fulling pushing in causing this condition. There are some quick fixes you can find online by using a washer to push the button up fully, but replacing this is the definitive solution. Very easy install, but requires pulling the refrigerator out fully, so you can access the back. youtube has many instructional videos that make it easy.
