Honestly, this gun did whatever those who rated it highly said it would do. But on smaller stuff, 1/4" brackets for motorcycle fenders, it was horrible. I tried everything, changing speeds, changing power, and I either had burn back, or globs with poor penetration. I was able to use full power max speed on 3/16 alloy and make nice beads. That environment is where this gun is happy at. It is not useable for small scale stuff where quality beads are desirable. If I were building a fleet of aluminum boat trailers, this would be a viable gun. Note, I used this gun with my Lincoln 140 HD MIG machine that I have been using for the past ten years with no problems. Very disappointed with this spool gun for my intended use of fabricating smaller alloy parts for motorcycles. 3 stars, because as bad as it was, it did assemble easily, and seemed to do what it was intended to do.

Great for the home welder
I just taught myself to weld as of a year and a half ago, and I began using the spool gun with my baby 120 amp Lincoln MIG SP140T last August. That said, I am NOT a professional welder, but it was pretty easy to get "good enough" for home projects. In fact, I purchased the spool gun to retrofit my aluminum jon boat into a duck boat, and it was worth every penny. If you're used to using the regular steel torch for your MIG, this is going to take some getting used to, but once you've adjusted and gained an appreciation for welding aluminum, it's almost a bummer to go back to welding steel. In fact, before starting with the spool gun, I was passable at best as a steel welder, and since I built a dry box and a few brackets for the boat and gained confidence to weld on the hull with great success, I would say my steel work is looking borderline professional. It's a great teaching tool and it works flawlessly. The only time I have had a jam is because I wasn't using the proper stickout, and my tip got slagged up and needed to be changed. However, that was after welding enough to use up an 80cf bottle at 30 cfm. The loading is pretty straight forward, and so far, the mechanics and electronics have been very reliable. It's just like using a regular straight torch, except you really have to use both hands to guide it, and it's got what seems to be a troublesome 90 degree angle at first, which I grew to like. However, watch out, because the glove near the arc is going to get HOT. That said, the only sorry part about it is if you have one of the smaller 120 amp welders as I do, you have to take the housing off your welder and do some minor re-wiring. When Lincoln says, "spool gun ready," on their 120 models, they're not really telling the whole truth. It's not difficult, as Lincoln provides EXCELLENT instructions, but it IS tedious. TAKE YOUR TIME INSTALLING THE SWITCH. If you have a bigger machine, it'll probably be wired with a spool cutoff switch already. I would definitely buy it again, but being as how it's so well made, I doubt that I will have to!

Great product works like a dream
I use this spool gun all the time on thicker material that would take too long with a tig. Spool gun lays a nice clean bead. Love it!!

Wire feeder’s roller hard to open
The wire feeder’s roller is pushed down by a powerful spring that makes it so hard to lift with a finger to open in order to load the wire into the feeder!

It works great. For home projects.
I’m not the best welder ????‍????. I’m not even welder ????. My aux diesel tank had cracks on both sides. I used to patch it with JB Welder. But it lasts 2 weeks and it starts leak again. I took to welders once. They charge a lot. And it cracked again after few months. Now I can weld myself. You can see before and after pics. It’s not the best welding, but it worked and stopped leaking. I recommend it.

Plenty of Power.
The Lincoln Spool Gun works well. I have a Lincoln 180HD and it was pre wired for the Spool Gun. I welded some 4 X 4 X 3/8 I-Beams into a welding table. It's got plenty of capacity, puts down a lot of material, not too much control though. But it's not a TIG, if you want real control, that's what you'd need. For structural welds though, it works very well. I'm very satisfied with it.
